Door sticker with VIN 1972
The driver door of my 72 442 still has part of the original sticker with the VIN etc. The body shop wants to remove it before they paint the jams. I have a feeling it will get destroyed in the process. Is there a source to get a new one made???
Thanks in Advance

(Edit: Just read that part of your VIN sticker is already missing....) I'd leave the original there and have a small "unrestored" area. The repros never use the same lettering/font as originals. Also, if you decide to keep the original, do not let them put masking tape, etc. that sticks to the face of the label itself.

Supercars Unlimited also carries a two part sticker. You type the info on the new sticker, stick it in the door, then stick the clear part over the sticker. Fusick may also carry them. Good luck.

Here's a dumb question. The vehicle weight is 5140 lbs (wow). The front weighs 2660, that means the rear would have to weigh 2480, right? The sticker says 25XX. Am I interpreting this wrong?

That isn't how much the vehicle weighs by itself. That 5140lb. figure would also include all passengers and probably some cargo but someone else can chime in and give this the proper answer.

So you're saying that is the maximum weight it can handle. That would make more sense. Is there anywhere on a particular car that has its weight? Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread.

Far as GVWR goes - you'd think the front GAWR + the rear GAWR SHOULD total the vehicles GVWR. The GVWR includes fully loaded weight of occupants, fuel, luggage etc and was calculated as a balanced side to side load on each axle. The front and rear GAWR also includes the weight of the axle assemblies.
The one in the picture doesn't seem to add up right does it? Then again, here's here's another original sticker (CS again) with numbers that don't 'add up'. Notice also this car was built at Arlington and the font is different than the Lansing numbers on 71 four4two s

I got stickers from InLine Tube and had my sister type in the info. The stickers come with a clear cover (also a sticker) and mine looks great. Believe it of not, finding a typewriter was the hard part. My sister is the only person I know that still has one!!!
There is a vendor on eBay that will sell you the sticker and fill in YOUR info. before shipment. The new on from InLine Tube was a dead ringer for the original I took off. My car is a frame-off and I wasn't about to mask off the old one. I have another '72 that I need to do as whoever painted the car removed the sticker---GLAD I bought spares.

think about going to a pawn shop. They have almost everything. Use it and then pawn it back to another shop. You just have to make sure the typewriter is one that uses the old cloth ribbon instead of a carbon tape.

Here's how I make door jamb lables for my customers cars. I've scanned a number of original lables and saved them in files. I've then made a master thats all cleaned up and saved it to a file. When I need to make a new lable I copy and paste the charactors (numbers and letters) then save my new work to a file. For copy I use large address lables. I've adjusted the color so that it looks perfect. Copied lables still have to be trimmed with a razor knife. The clear film is just heavy duty shipping tape timmed with a razor knife. The end product is a perfect copy of an original right down to the font and color. Be careful not to make them too perfect or it will not look original. Unless you want "too perfect" then good luck with that. ~BOB
