Does cold start affect vacuum?

On my 55 the treadle vac is slow to gain a full amount of vacuum on a cold startup, brake peddle is hard (no power brakes) till engine is warm. Is the carb affecting the vacuum ?Once warm the power brakes work fine all day and the vacuum tank will hold one or two shots of vacuum over night but the peddle will be hard after those are expended till warm up... Any Ideas why no vacuum on a cold engine....Tedd

I'm no expert on the '50s cars. But if they're like later ones, cold starts should result in increased vacuum. An engine on fast idle with the choke closed developes more vacuum than one idling slowly with choke wide open.

I'd look for a vacuum leak -- something that changes with temperature.
