Day One.

Day One.
Here's a thread topic I haven't seen. I was reading another member's thread that included a photo of his '66 Cutlass convertible on the day it was delivered, and it occurred to me -- I don't have pictures of ANY of my cars from back in the day. Each car I've had has been a mystery that needed to be figured out. It would have been really great (and very informative) to have some photographic evidence of the way any of them looked when they were new.
How about you guys? Anybody got some cool pictures of their ride on Day One -- either inherited from a previous owner, or even better, photos you took yourself. Love to see them!

My avatar was taken on my dad's birthday in 1969, the day after he bought his "new" 1968 4-4-2 convertible (it had been a demo and my dad was its first private owner). The picture below with me in uniform was taken in March 1970 when I was 19 and home on leave. Another pic was taken a year later (again home on leave) just after I had washed and waxed dad's car. The last pic was taken around 1974 - that's my first car behind my dad's car - the '69 4-4-2 holiday coupe. My dad's car went to my sister around 1977 and she and her husband proceeded to tear it up. They took it apart in 1981 to restore it and it stayed apart in their garage for 22 years before they gave it back to my dad. Dad said to restore it and that's what I got to do for 3-4 years. When it was done, dad gave it to me! I've tried to keep it like it could have come off of the assembly line that way - added a few factory options and new paint. I'm one lucky guy!

My 68 442 before...
I got my car in 1999. I started the resto in 2001. I look at these pictures now and understand why my wife kept asking why I took a perfectly good car apart. But Honey, the floor pan had rust holes in it and the floor pan braces were rusted out. She still argues, but still loves to go for rides.
She wants to drive it to her work now.... Gonna have to test her on it first

My first day photo is AWOL, which would of been November of '86. I remember it being taken with a 110 instamatic camera.
I keep my fingers crossed that it will show up...some where, some day.

I should add that I was able to trace my 4-4-2's history back to Day 1. The owner of the dealership where my dad bought the car is still alive and I was able to track him down through another member of this forum. As well, the State of Oregon DMV had detailed documents on my car from Day 1. It was originally supposed to go to Wenatchee, WA, but it got diverted to Portland, OR, to be a "Brass Hat" car for a manager at the Olds Portland Zone Office. The owner of the dealership even remembered the name of the person at the zone office that drove the car for some 3 months. In July 1968, the car went from the zone office to the dealership where my dad eventually bought the car at the end of March 1969. The dealership owner remembered the car because his wife liked it so much she drove it around town for some 7-8 months before the dealership put it on the lot for their annual convertible sale in March 1969. The documents from Oregon DMV show that it was initially owned by the Olds Division of GM while it was at the Portland zone office, then owned by the dealership, and finally by my parents. What's funny is that the last document showing my parents' ownership deleted their names but their birthdates are there for anyone to see.
Attached below is a scan of the original window sticker, as well as a picture of my parent's cars in the summer of 1969. Yes, my mom liked convertibles, too, as well as Keystone mag wheels and thrush glass packs!

This is the kind of history that I love. Anybody else got pictures or other mementoes of their car from when it was new? Or maybe only slightly used.
Love your mom's RS, Randy!
