Do you think a car salesman who sells you a new car, while telling you they are allowing you $2500 for your old car while adding $2500 to the sales price is acting out of integrity?

My question to you is about the guy selling the Dodge on Ebay. Did he have to go to the hospital after he was insulted on a message board? Did he have to see a therapist because someone didn't like his car? The answer is no. No one was hurt. He kept the car.

This is not about salesmen. Try to be objective instead of injecting red herrings.

The difference between the Olds and the Dodge is that, with the Dodge, we don't have hearsay - we have factual evidence. It has nothing to do with undermining someone's character.

You're talking about integrity and you say it's not about the salesmen? What does integrity have to do with posting your feellings on a message board? I don't have any opinions one way or another whether either of those sellers sell those cars. Just as they aren't going to care whether or not I sell mine.

I show a little support to a guy who feels he's done wrong by throwing up red flags about a suspicious car and I'm showing no integrity? You obviously have no idea what integrity means.

Thank you! Unfortunately there will always be nerds so worried they don't have some stupid chalk mark on the frame at the correct angle or one part isnt numbers matching. And then there's the others that actually drive them!

I'm 99.9% sure this is the car I sold. It was totally complete but very rough. I had heard through the vine that it had been re-bodied. Now,if you want to see how Diego feels about re-bodying a car, just wait till he sees this. A re-body is an acceptable way to save a car and unless his impending marriage has screwed with his head,he feels different.

This site is different from ALL those others. This is the ONLY reason I come here. Please if you come on here be respectfull of others options, (we all have them), loose the name calling, and most important add some value to the topic. Any 12 year old can go on a forum and start name calling. There are LOTS of those forums, but on here we don't play that way. I will defend our right to civil disscusion until the bitter end.

PLEASE and THANK YOU

Mike

So, Mike, what are you sayin'? That a guy should be able to point out how vigilance also requires responsibility and expect a civil response?

I rarely agree with Diego but he is spot on with this one. This is the 1st line of the thread:

I want to warn anybody who is looking at the light green W32 on ebay that it is a clone.

The OP left no margin for error with that statement. Better way to say it is that its possibly a clone or that there are some red flags.

Right...and I admit that! I should have just said it was suspicious or whatever. I have no proof, other than the car was definitely hinky, the fact that the previous seller had no documentation, and the fact he tried to hard + quick sell me knocking 5K off the price even when I told him I wasn't interested w/o documentation. A rebody would explain most everything I saw.

Mr. Olds, awhile ago you backtracked. That's cool. I have no problem with that.

But some members here continue to suggest it's okay to speak without thinking. And some think it's okay to transfer tags from one car to another.

We need to be vigilant to the people who are perpetrating fraud. Some people are greedy, while others just don't "get it." It's unfair to legit people when we think - without proof - they're perpetrating fraud.

This is not rocket science.

I have to say that if ANYONE on here can say anything about the car or base an opinion on here, it should be the OP...considering he is the only one on here to actually physically view the car first hand in person AND speak with the seller. Hats off for the "heads up", though it could have been approached more tactfully.

The key is documentation, if you got it...you have no worries. If you don't, you will always have a prob getting big bucks for your car. I did look the car over carefully, and did speak to the owner at length. You see...this is how it happens, you guys that have W cars should take a good look at this thread. Some peeps jumped all over me, they never even SAW the car, but went forward to defend it. So...my 442 is a Lansing car, I have NOS W 32 decals, I have a ram air setup, I have the washer hose clips, basically...I have everything I need here to clone my car into a W32. I just have to add stripes on the hood, or not...they could be deleted. I could do it literally overnite. I could do this, restamp what's needed (I have stamps), put the car away for 10 years and pop it back out as a W32. Nobody can say it's not, because you can only prove if it's NOT a W32 if it wasn't built in Lansing. What I DON'T have is any documentation, that would always make the car questionable. That car (the ebay car) is not on the W-registry either. Not that they all are, some peeps don't want that. But...you see my point? It's food for thought! As for the person questioning my knowledge + judging abilities...I bought my car for 2K twelve years ago, I restored it myself, it scored 999 last time out at the Nats. And...no...I didn't judge it myself. The lowest it's ever scored was 992 1st time out, it was good enough for 1st + BOC in Bowling Green against trailer queens. It has 6 OCA Nats awards, never taking less than 1st or BOC. It has won over 100 trophies, and 2 Best Musclecar awards from Hemmings. And, it's DRIVEN always to shows except for the Nats when it's trucked. I don't own a trailer. Last summer it was driven to MA RI CT and NH shows. It's true...I didn't know there was a small window for the SSI wheels w/ discs. It's not something I would ever even dock for, or look for, because I know SSI wheels were available in 69. We only have like 15-20 mins to judge. It's a team...I never do wheels, I'm an underhood guy, or paint + body guy, usually. Honestly, I've never met ANYBODY who knows more about 69 442's than myself. Maybe there is someone, probably, but I haven't met them. I know some stuff! Nobody knows everything, I'm still learning new things everyday about these cars and others.

But what if it is rocket science? How do we know if this car was once owned by a rocket scientist? Does that mean he has integrity?

Wow , this is almost as much fun as watching a bar fight. AND, I don't have to watch out for thrown beer bottles.
It is seriously entertaining, but has also been educational to someone like me that knew little about Olds until I started working on one.
Thanks guys.

Is that it?

Folks, you can't make this stuff up - a guy sacrifices his integrity just because he thinks he's being a thorn on my side.

But it's quite relevant to the hobby, as people sometimes forget that a car and an ego are two different things. When a guy (or girl) thinks they're one and the same, we have people lying to your face. Or being a troll.

He lives for controversy and debate. He's never wrong, his opinion is always right and his girlfriends name is Mississippi Mud,one of the 31 flavors.

Since when has the truth been controversial? Restamping a motor is wrong. Rebodying a car is wrong.

Only those who like to flip cars and make money off the unsuspecting see nothing wrong with it.

Seeing as you're on both sides of the debate, it's not really truth. It's just controversy.
