I have never bartered cars....should I? Anybody bartered cars before? What should I be aware of?
I am not against selling the Olds...I never use it.. but a T Bird?

Thanks....

Anybody had experience with these early Mustangs...good trade or bad?

Thanks,

Mustang is a 6 cyl floor shift auto dark blue/ white interior white top ...interior is excellent...average paint...
Why can't somebody with a an Olds come into my shop wanting to barter ?

I would keep the T-bird, there is just too many mustangs out there. Plus the T-bird looks much nicer.

How much do you like the bird?
How much do you like the stang?
Tough call, the T birds nicer from here, but Im partial to drop tops, maybe some cash thrown in as it needs alot to be as nice as the bird. Any rust in the mustang?

I'm guessing the guy with the Mustang came to the realization that the Mustang needs more than he can deal with, and driving past and seeing your Tbird gave him the idea to dump the Mustang under the guise of swapping one classic Ford for another.

I say keep the TBird, ive never been a fan of Pusstangs and the older ones steer like a boat. With one exception, I do like the 69 Mach 1 and Boss 302 but theres a thousand other cars id buy before id buy one. T Birds are cool IMO.

Ted, there are a lot of valid opinions
for you to think about. Yea or nay of
which Furd. Is it for Momma? What a
guy. Hers's my FWIW. If it's not rusty.
There is no frame to speak of. The suspension
upgrade for it with brakes is probably 1/2 as much or a
little more
as it would to do one of our bruisers. 351 Winsor
or Cleavland. No 427's for Momma. Maybe a 429 for Dad....
Is your guy in a hurry? Would he give you a little time to
do a little research? The money will be in the pony car longrun.
Heck, it's probably a manual top. No hydrolics, bonus.

This car is not for me.....not my thing.
I am with Steve...if it was a 69 Mach 1.....

The car would be a B'day gift to my wife.....she is 50 this year in June and the car was built around the same time. What a guy EH
No hydraulics, and I think I will keep the 6 banger Adam....for now
That said, I do agree from an investment viewpoint, that the Mustang is the better investment in the long run.
Really appreciate the input!
I will be looking underneath it tonight and will post what I find.....I have a feeling it may need a torque box or two

Here's my advice.

If you can swing it, offer cashola for the Mustang. If he doesn't bite, then he's trying to rip you off with either the Mustang having issues, or a big value discrepancy. I recommend you hie thee to the nearest bookstore and get the Old Car Price Guide and look up both cars.

That 6 in that Mustang is probably tired, and it's probably more of a dog now than it was before. The bird, on the other hand, is fine as is. I would not trade straight up. Figure out ultimate worth of both, and subtract out the negative condition of each. Then, if you must do it, ask for more than the money it would take to make it a fair deal; remember, he is asking you to trade, so he's driving the deal.

I'd keep the bird.
