A friend needed an everyday driver and asked me if he could use my 1987 CS for the week...I said sure . He left his 1966 T Bird . He called me tonight to see if I would trade straight up...my CS for his T Bird...
I have never bartered cars....should I? Anybody bartered cars before? What should I be aware of?
I am not against selling the Olds...I never use it.. but a T Bird?

If you decided to sell the T-bird could you get a similar amount to what the Cutlass would sell for? The pictures look good, what's its condition? Why did he need your Cutlass rather than drive the T-bird? I kinda like the barter idea, but I'd make sure its a fair swap for both of you. You don't want the car deal to come between friends. John

Quite honestly, the T bird is worth more....390 4V 2dr hardtop all there and orig but has been painted once...no bondo and interior is very nice.All in all a solid driver. 13360 of these models were made and the body design was one yr only....
Maybe I should get appraisals done for both cars?....that way I do not lose a friend......he is a car guy, and did not want to drive the T Bird in the winter....

A nice, classic T-Bird for a cookie-cutter G-body that you can't tell from a Malibu or a Regal from fifty feet?

Take the T-Bird and hope that your friend doesn't sober up too soon.

That is true, it was his idea....
Just never bartered for a car before...seems to good to be true in this case.
I will take it out for a spin tomorrow.......it is a pretty nice classic, and nicely optioned...

I'd advise you to drive the TBird for a couple of days to see if you would actually enjoy owning/driving the car.

Take the T Bird! But not a one year design, I believe '64-67 with cosmetic changes.

Take the T-bird. Just like Eric said, a nice classic car for a G body. Even if there is small problems with it it's still much nicer classic car.

Just wanted to say thanks for the opinions...
I took it out and it drove very nicely...no knocks ,pings , clunks or rattles.i would rather have a Starfire convertible, but both parties are happy with the deal.
All in all a nice classic T Bird
Adam, it does have the break away steering column.

The 66 was the last year for the unibody, then in 67 the car was completely redesigned..suicide 4 doors etc.
The 66 hardtop coupe was unique because of styling changes..the grill was a 66 only design for example.

I will drive it for a summer, then sell or maybe trade for an Oldsmobile.....I am not to sure if my Olds herd is liking a T Bird flying around

T-bird was a direct Starfire competitor - Big, fast, smooth, quiet, and cool.

If you like Starfires, there's nothing not to like about T-birds (except for that Dorf handling - I had a '68 Galaxie and could never quite get used to the road feel compared to similar GMs I'd had). If the T-bird feels good to you on the road, you're set.

I had a '63 T-bird and loved it.

My father's only comment on his dad's 63 thunder chicken was that it drove like a Buick. He ended up selling it soon after his dad passed on. Nice car though.

You got a great deal on this. See if the car grows on you, then maybe keep it and get another Olds. No need to feel like you must sell it to get the Olds though, there's no law against more than one classic car.

Guy came into shop today....wants to trade a 19641/2 Mustang convert for my T bird......Mustang is original.....any thoughts would be appreciated.... I thought of giving to my wife on her Bday as it was made the same year!.....this barter thing seems to be coming at me lately!
Anybody had experience with these early Mustangs...good trade or bad?

Mustang is a 6 cyl floor shift auto dark blue/ white interior white top ...interior is excellent...average paint...
Why can't somebody with a an Olds come into my shop wanting to barter ?

Not a Ford guy Ted, but I do like verts.
Go for it. A 289-302 might drop right in
place of the six. May need to replace
the front springs for V-8 springs.

Well that's a tough choice. If it had a v8 would be a no brainer, but being a vert and the first year of Mustang production, makes it probably a bit more desirable than the Tbird. I would bet your wife would like the Stang better.

Judging from the pictures the Tbird is a nicer car. The Mustang is going to need an interior, tires, maybe a top. I think the Tbird is more cool. But the Mustang's top goes down. Hm.

From the looks of the pictures, I'm liking the TBird better. The Mustang an automatic/6 cyl, needs complete resto=lots of $$$$. The overall value of the Mustang is higher, but the cost to get it in the condition to bring big bux is also high.

I don't care if 99% of people like mustangs more than T-birds.
