70 Aluminum water outlet anomaly? Have you seen this joesw31?

I just removed a water outlet from a 1970 350 engine. I believe this engine to be a unmolested engine and never been apart. It had an aluminum water neck with the 5 and part number on the driver side. All the others I have ever had, the 5 and part number are on the passenger side. Anyone see this before?

Necks

They sure seem to have a devil may care attitude re: consistency at GM, makes positive ID tough...Notice the part numbers are same, but the small "2" indent in the right one's"5". Wonder if its a casting plant thing, or merely an anomaly?

All of mine have a 1 or a 3 inside the 5.

I have at least three different styles of the short bypass (as opposed to the ones with a curved pipe) outlets. Some have a different angle, some have the neck over to one side, some have the neck in the middle. I'll look for pics that I posted on the old ROP a few years ago to verify this. They have different casting numbers on different locations. I do not know what years each one is supposed to go on.

up on it, and get a pic for you guys.
It has brass bolts too. Kinda cool.

Man, I don't know. I bet one of the Austin
boys could answer that one. We like Coopers
over in Llano. And of course Rudys over in Austin
is the cat's meow too. Your making me hungry!

Salt Lick has always been my favorite...Awesome wasn't bad a nice clean little Ma & Pa place, right on the way into Marble Falls. I was rolling a service call at the high school & stopped and got lunch...wow was pretty good. Stubbs always good, House Park just off 12th & North Lamar was scary good, like 8 tables and none of the tables & chairs matched.

Gotta love the mom and pop places.
There was a place off Anderson Rd.
like that I had eaten at once before, years ago.
I can't remember the name of the place but it was yummy too.

girlfriends and ate there. Guess I will
have to try it. Just had a glass of chocolate
milk to tide me over,lol.

You too. Now that we stepped all
over Eric's thread. Oops, sorry guy.
But on the plus side, if he ever gets
to come to Austin, he'll know where to have lunch!

Oh damn, yes, sorry Eric. This was very rude of me. I got caught up in a nostalgic moment, that doesn't make it right. My apologies.

GM didn't make the water outlets. They shopped them out to multiple supliers. The engineering drawings would cover the critical dimensions but leave unimportant details, such as the location of the casting number, up to the supplier.
