Lightbulb '69 Cutlass rare color?

So my '69 Cutlass S is factory meadow green and for a while I had the intention of painting it white with gold H/O stripes. (just because I like that color combo). But I was talking with a guy who has one of two '71 442 that is green with white stripes, interior, and convertible top in existence, and he told me to keep my car meadow green because green is a rare color. I searched a little bit, but I didn't find any production numbers for color. So I'm wondering if It would be more worth my while to keep it meadow green or not.... thoughts?

If it were a W-car or even a 442 I would say to keep it the original color. Since it is a Cutlass and not exactly a rare collectible model I would paint it whatever color you desire. I am always a fan of choosing a color from the original color pallet for that year and model of vehicle myself.

Your buddy is full of crap. There is no way to prove his claim

It is your car. Paint what ever color appeals to you.

no way to prove as said...there are some quantity of colors known...but its a percentage and the number is extrapolated....or a good educated guess....

and no one is in line to buy a green car..there are people that appreciate it..but no one woke up this morning and said "yep..i gotta get me a green 69 xxxxx (insert model)"

Agreed. And anyone who says that green was a rare color for cars in '69 - '72 either wasn't alive back then or is blind.

If meadow green is that pea green color, I had a '69 "98" that color, "The Green Monster".
Hated that color.
Ended up repainting the car saffron yellow.
Also had a '69 Cutlass convertible that color.
Put up with the color only because it was a loaded '69 Curlass convertible.
I would urge you to change the color to anything!

Suggestion

What color is your interior?

If you change colours consider Paint Code 69 Peruvian Silver. I had a 69 442 that color and it is killer.

The reason green cars are rare is because nobody bought green sports cars back in the day. It was usually gramps and gramas choice of colors.

There are no records to prove or disprove this claim, so the "guy" is making this up.

there where more green cars built in 68 and 69 than any other time...its been published that many service men ordered cars while on a tour in Vietnam and they where very loyal to the service hence all the green cars...plus fresh discharged veterans went and bought a massive amount of cars..many green

the "old man" only ordering green cars is 100% urban legend

when i was a teen..i bet 80% of the cars i looked at to buy where green..that was around 79-82 they survived well...and all i was looking at where muscle car era cars

around my area it was really hard to get a cool car that wasnt green...brown or gold

These kids...

I guess those not alive in the 1960s can't believe that cars came in colors other than silver, white, black, and red. Sublime was about the most popular color at Chrysler in 1970:

. . . except that's Green Go, not Sublime - one of the rarer greens out there. :-)

Also, when it comes to performance Mopars, Plum Crazy/Inviolet was the most popular of the High Impact colors.

I bet the owner of the green/white Olds brags to people about how many exist like that. The OP should ask for documentation and see what he has to say.

You've even posted proof on my behalf!

Admittedly, the lighting's not the greatest on that car, but the darkness clearly suggests it's FJ6. FJ5 Sublime is a brighter, less subdued.

Anyway, attached is production by color for the 1970 Challenger hardtop, body JH23. This is for all V-8s from the 318, 340, 383-2, and 383-4. It is not including R/Ts. You'll see that even for a non-hi-po car, Plum Crazy comes out on top. The Challenger T/A is in this group because it was an option on the base Challenger and not the R/T, so this car you've pictured if FJ6 is quite rare.
