67 cutlass back seat not comfortable...
Car is being repainted..all seats are out..front seats are comfy..but the back seat sucks...original but cheap, wirery,no cushion...this is not a back seat to take anyone in!! Anyone? Is there not an a real real leather comfy option from another year? I'd rather not have a seat at all!
Thanks!
Thanks!

You can have an upholstery shop add more cushion, more padding. If its original the foam used almost 50 years ago had probably disintegraded. If it has been recovered since, perhaps they didnt pad it enough, or used cheap materials. Try to find Rambo here on CO, i think he is an interior specialist. I havent seen him post much lately it seems.

I agree with Koda.
But to be honest I have owned many of these cars and two things:
1: Koda is right and I have a daughter to prove it.
2- they did not use leather in the Cutlass line. But, you can do the seat right. Legendary does a nice kit to set up the foam, backing and burlap for these seats and it comes out pretty nice. I never ride in the back seat. Yet in my convertible it is used often in the nice weather by many. I believe Legendary even had a video to show how to do this. It is very basic and in the end if done well makes it a pretty nice seat. You can add foam for more cushion or even put some larger foam under the springs for more support.
Hope this helps

Amen to " They did not use leather " But my question is " Why " Is their not a later option leather back seat that can be dropped into the 67 cutlass that you know of??? Thanks bud...

To my knowledge, real leather was never offered in these cars. A good upholstry shop could certainly recover your seats with leather, and sew the pattern very close to the original vinyl covers. Im sure real leather is not cheap.

At your age, you'll never use the back seat anyway. Stick with the sleep number bed - your back will thank you, and if she puts her back out, you'll never hear the end of it.

Seriously, all of the A-body seats were about the same, regardless of Division.
There is no stock seat that is any different, aside from the pattern on the seatcovers.
Your only choice, as noted above, is to get together with a good upholstery guy and have him create a new padding structure.

You have to just make sure of width, Convertibles have a much narrower seat to allow for the top cylinders to swing down. Chevelles and some GTO type cars and some post Oldsmobiles even had a wider seat as the did not have the ash well covers. If you want real leather and don't care about the look of factory upholstery. Look at the Late 70's and early 80's A or rather G body cars. I had a 79 Cutlass Supreme with pillowed leather seats that were incredibly comfortable. But not sure on the width.
Just a thought and as you have been told already there are lots of upholstery shops that would make them pretty much any way you want. In fact even legendary has different cushion and upholstery options on some years that make the seats much more comfortable yet look somewhat factory. I am considering those on my 70 442 we are doing now.
Just some more thoughts

I'd be a bit surprised if it worked, but then some of these things (like sway bars) can be interchanged surprisingly easily.
Thanks.
