'66 Toronado steering wheel install

Good morning, I am having difficulty getting shifter detents, neutral safety switch, and steering wheel installed correctly. I'm pretty sure the parts are there and good but I'm thinking there is a trick to getting that hub and detent plate lined up with shifter arm before putting the 3 screws in. Is there a trick, or do I persist and get lucky with holding things in the right place? Thanks ahead of time for any suggestions.

Thanks for the reassurance that it can be difficult to get lined up. I just received the chassis and fisher body maintenance manual on cd so that may give some insight.
