350 Starter Heat shield installation

I am putting things back to stock, when I bought the car it did not have the heat shield. I have the assembly manual and what is shown and what I have is different. Here are pictures with and without the heat shield installed. What do I have to make or get to make this right. This is a 1972 cutlass supreme 2 door coupe.

It looks to me like that is a newer starter and does not have the bolt hole in the case for the shield to mount.

That is what the manual shows as well. So looks like I get to be creative? is the threaded post on the back for this type of purpose?

I ran into the same problem. I modified the hole in the shield to allow a large gear/hose clamp to slide through and wrapped it around the starter. Tighten everything up and you should be good. You can paint a little black on the clamp and you can barely see it.

You may have some luck if you still have a place near you that rebuilds starters. I actually found one there to replace mine. They even had the ballast resistor wire post for the points.

Can you return the starter for a different one? Maybe they will have one with the threaded hole. Be careful if you put a bolt in the hole that isn't the correct stud. If it goes in too deep it will ground out the field winding. I have a rebuilt starter for sale with the hole if you want one and can't find one.

Well folks got it fixed. Just ended up making a tab and welding it on the heat shield then with Mike77's idea it works perfectly. See the pictures
