1972 Cutlass "donor car"

I have come across a 1972 Cutlass hardtop "donor car". The owner tells me it originally had a 455 and dual gate shifter from the factory. Can I assume that it probaly has a posi read end? Will a '72 rear end work on my '70 convertable?

I'm curious, is there a 'U' in the VIN #? The U would indicate a 455 with factory dual exhaust..
