1966 442 - new carpet intall question

Good morning! I am about to replace the carpet in my '66 442 and wanted to know the best way to remove both bucket seats without killing myself.

Thanks!

Jon

I know of only one way to remove the seats, you have to unbolt them in 4 places (front and rear of both seat tracks).

Also lube the bolts from underneath the car as if rusty they can snap off. A tougher job may be getting the seat belts out. These bolts need lube also.

This may seem basic and obvious but have a plan what to do with them once they are out of the car and in your grip. A clear path and a spot to put the seats will save much frustration.

May want to let the new carpet sit out in the sun for a bit before installing. It will be a bit easier to work with and contour correctly.

Let it set in the Sun and or the Heat for a few days.Use the tip of a Soldering Iron to cut the holes for you Mounting Studs and Seat Belt Holes. It will seal the Holes .Most Carpet sets are Olefin which is nothing more than Plastic,,Using the Soldering Iron will prevent the Carpet from Runs .

FYI, the carpet is installed AFTER the seats and goes over the feet on the seat tracks. There should be slits where it fits over the tracks.

I just finished the carpet installation on my 65. Someone posted a diagram where to make the slits so the feet slip under the carpet. Makes a nice apperance

Remove front mounting nuts FIRST. Then release the seat adjuster and slide the bucket seats full forward and remove the rear mounting bolt and nut. Then lift the seat.

When I installed my seats I separated the backs from the seat section. Made it easier to lift and position onto the studs and holes in the floor then I installed the backs.

Joe, hate to bother you about this but I am getting close to carpet. I have a problem following this path if I have a console. I would appreciate your thoughts on this.
Thanks

What kind of problem? This is how the cars were built. Install the seats, install the carpet, then install the console.
