Hello all. I recently started a thread about a warranty replacement for my car cover from Covercraft, and I received my new cover, but they didn't line the inner seams with a felt strip (this prevents the seams from making contact with the car). They will fix the issue by either sending another cover with the felt lined seams, or add the felt to the one they already sent. Either way, I have to send the new one back.

Is it really worth the extra effort to send it back and wait for them to resolve the issue, or will I be ok with the seams as they are?

I won the cover as a prize for finishing first in a virtual car show they did in 2023, so I'm not out of pocket for anything. Also, my current cover is torn (which I've patched with duct tape, and is also why I'm getting a warranty replacement). So, while it's not an immediate problem, I do need a new one ASAP.

I've included pics to show the difference between the seams with felt lining and without.

My family has season passes for IMS in the Hulman Terrace Club so this year I decided to take the '70 pace car back to Indy for the practices and qualifications. Since my brother in law lives in Fishers, IN, it's only about a 40 minute drive each way to get to the track and I have an asphalt spot in a gated lot right across the street from the speedway coming off of turn 4.

We put the flags in and cruised the neighborhood this past weekend! Looking forward to doing the same on Carb Day this upcoming Friday.

The cars in 1970 were delivered locally and driven to Indianapolis Motor Speedway where they received their official and dignitary decals. My car is #79 which was then transported by Tony Hulman to Bloomington for the Little 500 bike race.

OAI in a driving rain?

*My 1972 442 will most likely never see rain especially a driving rain but after getting all the OAI installed on my car and seeing the ways it is supposed to keep water moving out of the air cleaner...

My 1972 442 will most likely never see rain especially a driving rain but after getting all the OAI installed on my car and seeing the ways it is supposed to keep water moving out of the air cleaner had me wondering?? The flapper keeps the rain out of main air cleaner until you open the throttle. Then water and air would enter the air cleaner from the hood intakes and I'd think it would have very fast airflow. It would enter the air filter housing and could exit the housing through the maybe 8 or 10 holes in the bottom (and onto the intake manifold) and also out the back of the housing via a large hose that dumps behind the intake manifold and down the back of the engine?

I know there are a lot of ways for water to flow out of the OAI air cleaner but, if you're driving 70 MPH down the highway, into a driving rain, couldn't the water back up in the air cleaner and enter through the air filter or areas that aren't sealed real well?

Back in the day, when these cars were new, who'da thought about water getting into the motor. Any one ever have an issue. I may be missing some feature that would help keep it out and it's all buttoned down on the 455 and I didn't take it apart to look......this is all from my elderly memory!

Just curious!!

BTW, when my brother bought the car in Texas back in 1981, he got all the OAI stuff and I'm glad he did. It costs a small fortune for repro or used. I was glad after I got the Torquer manifold removed from the motor!
For example: What is the date code for this 455? What is the "4" means?
