No power...Fusible link?

'67 442 convertible. Rally-Pac. Just got done installing a new dash in my 442. Thought I should test it out before installing seats and console. Lights worked, as did the fan, windshield wipers, and radio. Hit the starter, it clicked and everything went out. Dead. Do we maybe have a burnt fusible link? One last thing. When I was reassembling the dash on the bench, I was putting the speedo in, turned it face up and when I turned it back over I discovered a very small, white plastic stepped washer. Couldn't find where it went back in. Talked to several folks and it didn't sound like anything they recognized so I put it back together without finding a home for it. Any help out there?

Sounds more like a bad connection at the battery terminal.

Clean and tighten them and see if it happens again.

I agree with Eric. It could also be a bad negative or positive cable. I've had that happen.

Could be, sure hope so. I've got the original style spring clip ends on the cables. They've been disconnected for some time. I'll clean 'em tomorrrow after work. Right now, need a beer.

Doesn't the 67 have a speedo cable that screws to the speedometer? If it does, check to see if that stepped washer fits there. It might be a piece designed to stablize the cable going into there.

I just did a quick search of your dash assembly. Found something that looks like a stepped spacer - it goes with the parking brake light on the left side. Have a look at page 11 of 57 on this link: http://wildaboutcarsonline.com/membe...Section_14.pdf

Maybe that's it?

Also check the small wire from the negative cable to the firewall junction, and the ground straps to the valve covers to the firewall!!

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. And the winner is....corroded +battery cable. Everything works, car started. Life is good AGAIN!!! I'm going to finish installing the seats, glovebox, and console and take her for a spin. Think I'll need a smoke detector? LOL. Thanks again everybody.
