Driving home tonite in the rain after dark, the windshield wipers on my '83 Delta 88 quit working.

The electrical connector for the wiper motor seemed well connected. I then pulled the fuse and it looks ok. I also checked the ground strap and it seems connected at both ends.

Until today, they were working fine.

Before they quit working, I had noticed, a few times, that when I was using the momentary mode (mist mode?, not washer) when I would release the switch mid-sweep, the wipers would hesitate a little (pause mid-sweep for a fraction of a second). When they quit, I was again using that mode, and when I let go, they stopped where they were. I do not know what I did, but I did manage to get them to rest in the park position, but then I could not get them to turn on again.

I noticed when I tried turning them on (either low speed or mist mode) that I heard a click from around the wiper motor, but nothing moved.

Any suggestions what to check next or what the problem might be?

Could be the switch itself...put 12 volts directly to the motor and see what the result is...

Or check for 12V at the connector with the sswitch on.

I have the same problem with my 84. Pull the connectors off the wiper motor and clean the contacts on both sides. Use a contact cleaner spray. The early 1980s GM cars used some of the lowest quality electrical connectors I have ever seen. My 84 is as bad as some British cars for electrical problems, melted connectors, etc.

Did the testing procedure found in the body service manual to test the switch at the motor connection end and everything did what it should, so it looks like the problem is the wiper motor.
