Gauge Questions from Newbie

I had a bunch of lights out so I took out all of the gauges from the dash which was pretty easy. When I took out the pod with the fuel gauge I noticed a wire that was just dangling (see attached) and also noticed that maybe something else should have been attached to the back of the fuel gauge cluster.

any help much appreciated.

Also, the lights to the clock don't work. Bulbs OK. Any suggestions?

Thanks

To answer your "should something be attached" questions, no to both.

The orange pigtail is the light feed for options such as the clock or tach. The clock should have a wire coming off the bulbs that plugs into this.

Thanks Joe!

The orange pig tail is located behind the fuel gauge pod - it's tight so I don't think it would reach over to where the clock is. Plus the two bulbs that go into the clock are already attached to a wire. Those bulbs don't work.

I'm going to get everything hooked back up this weekend and see what's working - maybe I'll try hooking the clock into the mystery orange cable.

Sorry, I misspoke. The orange wires are +12v feeds for the interior courtesy lights, clock, etc. I suspect that particular orange wire feeds the map light in the dash.

I think it is for the map light in the mirror. There would be a gray wire from the mirror that would plug into that and run up the windshield pillar.

Behind the clock should be a THICK orange wire to plug into the clock or tach.

The wires hanging from your clock bulb sockets should plug into another connector behind the clock but with a gray wire (dimming dash lights.) Make sure the ground connection is good at the case to metal tab at mounting screw. If that is good, the sockets may need doctoring...

Thanks to all. The previous owner seems to have disconnected a few things - I have a lot of random wires dangling under the dash. This weekend I'll take pictures and host a game of "what's THIS wire"?

I found the thick orange wire behind the clock - clock works on occasion. Still trying to figure why the two bulbs aren't working for the light - more pics and an update this weekend...
