Internal or External Voltage Reg

Internal or External Voltage Reg
Should my '71 442 have an alternator with an internal voltage regulator or should it be external? The one that is on it is internal. However, I bought an alternator many months ago from an ACDelco dealer (one that I just now am trying to put on the car) and it is an external regulator type (but supposedly was correct for my year and model.) Thanks for any direction on this question.

A user on this forum-Yellowstatue- advises the following: It should be an alternator with an internal regulator (these for 442's); Part Number 1100934-42 Amp; 1100935-63amp-with a/c and HD cooling; 1100949-63amp with a/c, HD cooling and rear window defog. Good infomation for those that need to know-like me. Thanks
