What is this? 69 442

Hey guys,

Could anyone tell me what this piece is? It is located behind the brake booster beside the wiper motor. And also what it does? It had a wire running from the harness plugged into it and another that was loose, wasn't plugged into anything....could it have been s ground? There is also a vacuum line connected to it as well.

Thanks guys.

please and thanks

Not stock, hooked to vacuum line at bottom, top appears to go into aftermarket wildwood master cylinder?

Nothing like that ever came from Oldsmobile, so no idea what it might be.

Since you have Wilwood brakes I am going to make a wildass guess and say it is a brake light switch. Total guess and probably totally wrong.

Well, why would a brake light switch be connected to a vacuum hose? In any case, a 1969 442 has the brake light switch on the brake pedal bracket under the dash. It is mechanical, not hydraulic, and is completely unrelated to the master cylinder.

Joe, I understand all those things and have no idea why it would be connected to a vacuum hose. At age 72, I understand the brake light switch being mechanical and under the dash. As I mentioned it is totally a guess.

Part of an aftermarket cruise control? Where does the other end of the gray wire terminate and where does the vac line thats going through the fire wall connect?

Just because the thing is near the brake booster doesn't mean it has anything to do with the brakes. It looks like some kind of switch that would notice a loss of vacuum. Perhaps a safety switch for some kind of aftermarket cruise control? Or just a switch that would illuminate a warning light on the dash if there were a loss of vacuum?

By the way, the company is "Wilwood," not Wildwood. No "d."

Then the light would come on every time you went to wide open throttle...

No "d"? Wouldn't that make it "Wilwoo"???

I am thinking of just removing that piece.....the vacuum lines don't go anywhere. They are just hanging there......thanks for the input and comments.
