SR59 Battery

Supposedly these are the original style batteries used in the old cutlass. I know some people prefer to buy the topper to achieve the same look. Do you guys think this is a good buy? Would you recommend? https://www.batterycentralmall.com/Batteries/TurboStart/Script/SR59_HC.html

They are getting pretty expensive. I used one on my Fury because it was a show car. On my Cutlass, which is more of a driver, I bought a Walmart battery and removed the stickers. If your not concourse showing your car, spend your money on other things.

Cutlass 455s used a 71-series battery (larger physical size).

The SR59 is the AGM version of the original R59 battery. Shop around. Remy sells the same AGM version of the R59 for $200. Speedway sells it for $324. Antique Auto Battery sells it for $260. Of course, be sure to add shipping costs. I've found that often the really low priced vendors have very high shipping costs and the total delivered price ends up being about the same.

I checked my 71 cutlass sx which has a 455 in it and the battery tray is 10 inches not 12. Why do you think that is? Should I try to swap out to the bigger size or let it be?

If it's like my car, the battery tray has rusted out and been replaced many times over the years.

x2

Sam's Club or Costco are the best source for batteries and tires. If you aren't showing your Olds then just get a store bought replacement.

I just replaced my battery in my cutlass. I got an AGM battery at advance auto 3 year free replacement, about $180.

Just to be clear, I'm ASSUMING the OP wants a correct-appearing R59 battery. If not, then yes, I've had excellent results with WalMart, AutoZone, NAPA, etc.

The R-69 is the correct battery for late 66-67 442's. Nobody has made the R-69 as of now. The only difference between the 59 & 69 is,the 69 is 1" taller.
