Mini Starter Question

Hi

I have a 1978 Trans Am with a 403. I have the issue of heat soak and was looking at replacing the starter. I was wondering what mini starters people were using. I was looking at the Jegs Prostarter but wanted to see what others were using. My engine is stock with no modifications.

Thanks

Hi and welcome. Everybody has an opinion, my being.
"Powermaster" Made in USA. Have their XS Torque Starter. After 12 years, spins my high compression SBO 362 with ease. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/p...ake/oldsmobile

Read the reviews. Adjust with shims that come with it. Uses loctite on the bolts. Powerful little motor and after 10 years and moving from the north to the south. The bolts started to backout.

Hard to see under the Thermo-Tec Starter Heat Shield. My headers get mad hot.

Thanks for responding. I looked at the RobbMC 3004 starter.

The one by Jegs looks just like the Powermaster and the specs are the same. I wonder if they make it for Jegs?

I looked at both. And looks like a little difference. In the clocking and bolt block. Maximum Recommended Compression Ratio 18.0:1 for powermaster. 12.5:1 Compression for jegs. And $56 cheaper. Not the same I guess.

All I know the powermster spins my engine like crazy! And working for 12+ years. Sometimes you get what you play for. Hope that helps.

True, technically you're right they're not the same but for my stock 8:1 either should work fine. Probably look at the powermaster, might be easier to get.

Always loved the Shaker on your Trans Am. The best Olds had was the 1968 H/O two mail boxes on the hood. What color is your car? Have any pictures?
