A sticky gooey underhood mess

Previous owner had did a decent job restoring my 72 Olds but after running it a bit I noticed a bit of oozing coming from the electrical tape . I thought the car was just getting too hot with the headers , but I think I figured out it isnt the tape thats melting, but the tape adhesive. I went out and bought high temp fiberglass shielding from Russel called "wrap-it". It seems to do the job. What do you guys recommend? I am probably going to get to all of the wiring underneath the hood this winter.

This is why the factory harness wrap is plastic tape WITHOUT adhesive.

Ahh. Thanks for the link. That makes perfect sense. The fun part is cleaning up the old adhesive off the wires.
