Backup / safety switch

Hello,
Having some problems with my reversing lights. Car is a 1973 Delta 88,
has the 6 pin backup switch on top of the column. At the moment, the safety
side of the switch is all working, will only start in Park, but no reverse lights,
has 2 purple wires on the left side, I'm pretty sure these are the reverse lights,
with ignition on, no power to either. Red & orange wires go to the middle pins,
red wire has power with ignition on, right side pins has yellow wires, I think seat belt warning, these are not connected. Would be good if someone had a wiring
diagram of the switch, with the middle terminals, does the red go to the left
or right pin?
With the purple wires having no power, is that normal?
Fuse is OK, as well as bulbs, all other lights / blinkers work,

thanks, Marcus

The purple wires are the neutral safety portion of the switch. They will have power with the key in the start position. I don't have a wiring diagram available for your car. I would have an assistant stand in the back of the car watching the lights while you touch the yellow wires quickly to 12v and see if they light. I always thought backlights were green wires.

Thanks Eric,
I thought there should be green for reverse as well, there is no power to the purple wires
with ignition on. There are six wires to the switch, 2 purple, one with green stripe,
red & orange, red has power, 2 yellow, one with black stripe.

regards, Cus

Ok, so after some more investigating, found the light green wire disconnected. Because I've just completely restored the car, I couldn't remember if the reverse lights worked before hand, obviously not. Anyway, put power to the green wire & reverse lights came on. The 2 middle terminals on the switch had a pink wire, which had power when ignition was on & an orange wire, no power. So connected to the orange wire terminal, bingo, lights come on when reverse selected, go off with all other selections, car only starts in park, so looks like problem solved. The car has been converted to rhd, for some reason the PO hadn't reconnected the reverse lights. The wiring sequence for the switch is different from the manual, but anyway everything seems to work, regards, Cus
