Turn Signal Flasher

Am in the process of replacing my turn signal flasher on my 72 cs because my blinkers are not working. I have read several threads talking about where it is located. Can anyone tell me if the pink and orange wire connects to anything because mines is just hanging.

The wires to the turnsignal flasher are Purple and Green with Black stripe.

Pink and orange is the TH-400 kickdown switch.

Shouldn't it also likely have an L-shaped connector?

Just to clarify, the wire harness was the same for all cars, regardless of trans used. Since your 72 apparently has a TH350, the unused kickdown wires are just tucked up under the dash. Put them back and don't worry about it.

Wow, changing the flasher requires a lot of twisting and bending. Blinkers are working now. However I did notice the back lights don't blink when turning on the headlights, but If I turn them off then the back lights blinks. All bulbs are working.

Huh? No signal lights when the headlights are on?

Since there is no connection between the two systems, this sounds like a problem.

Are you certain that all light bulbs are inserted correctly, and are 1157s?

The front blinkers work when the headlights are on. I did notice that the passenger side tail light blinked real slow when headlights are on. I forgot to mention that I will be checking the bulbs tomorrow, and make sure there all 1157 and installed correctly.

Yes, there is a connection between the two systems. Turning on the headlights also turns on the parking lights, which share a ground wire with the turn/brake circuit at each corner of the car. If the ground is bad (either the wire or the socket itself), the turn signals will ground through the park light circuit when the headlights are off, but when the headlights are on the park light circuit has +12v on it so the ground isn't available. Check and fix the ground wires at the rear of the car.

After playing with the tail light bulbs on the driver side only, am thinking the sockets where the bulbs fit inside of might be faulty. I got the lower tail light blinker to work while the head lights are on, but it got dark so I stopped. When trying to install it I fell like am going to break it so I try not to apply to much pressure. Am going to try the passenger side and see if I can get those to blink while headlights are on.
