Stock Wires with Pertronix Ignitor II

I just bought the Pertronix Ignitor II to replace the points on my stock 69 442 setup and just realized they recommend not using copper core plug wires. The question is whether the wires I have fall into this category. I bought the date-coded reproduction wires offered on SuperCarsUnlimited about a month ago. I am curious if anyone has had any experience with this issue.

Thanks
Sean

No, the wires on your car currently should work fine. All your doing is installing a points replacement setup and using the same cap.

I think the issue with Pertronics is not to use solid core wires. This is from the site:

"You cannot use solid core (typically copper) spark plug wires with this product. Solid core wires do not suppress electro magnetic interference (EMI) which will interfere with electronics in this product. A suppression style or spiral wound spark plug wires must be used."

Thanks guys. I also read the stamping on the wires and they state "Supression" which is what Pertronix is recommending to avoid interference.

I have stainless steel GM wires on the 442 and do not have any problems with static or interference on the radio or hear any static on another vehicle's radio when within earshot.

And only if you listen to AM radio, and who listens to that anymore?

This reminds me of a time years ago when I was sitting at a stop light and a very radical sounding '57 Chevy came from the road to the right and made a left turn in front of me. My radio went blank as it passed by, then came back on after he was gone. That was my first experience with solid core plug wires.

Probably because they are spiral wound and not the solid core wire everyone here is referring too. Big difference between the two.

I listen to AM every day. Road and traffic on 680 and oldies on 560, 740, 1150 and 1580 on the weekends in the '57. When they close the 401 both directions for thirty minutes at a time to lift beams in place for a new bridge, you want to know when to bail out and detour. A couple or three crashes every day, or some dingaling wants check out the bottom of his rig, or four wheeler, on an off or on ramp and you don't want to be there!
