Ridiculous Detail Question On Reverse Lamp
Was going through detailing reverse lamp assemblies and noticed that the plastic lead connector on one lamp is black, but the other one is white/clear. This is a Frankenstein mishmash of a car - 72 442 vert - which one is correct?

Most GM connectors I've seen have been black or ivory white, but entirely possible a clear one could have been used, especially if the car has had a backup lamp replaced at some time during its life.
Y'all need to remember the factory used whatever was in the parts bin at the time the car came down the assembly line. To have stopped production for something like this would have probably gotten someone disciplined if not fired. They did not build these cars with fussbudget restorers in mind. They built them to get out the door and sold with as little warranty work as possible. And if that meant the colors on the wiring plugs were different, so be it.
Considering there was also a UAW and supplier strike at the start of 1971 production, I can easily see where colors might not have matched as GM turned to other suppliers to get the cars built and production caught up. Some of those parts stocks may have lasted into 1972 production.
Besides, who do you think will look behind the bumper to check such minutiae?
