Need help, what's the route of 54/55 Backup Light Wiring?

Does anybody know the wire routing for the backup lamps from the switch on the steering mast to the rear lamps? This is a black wire that goes to a splitter in the trunk area. Body harness from the dash to the trunk did not have the wire but the car has backup lamps. Old wiring was a mess and totally disintegrated when we got the car.

Thanks!!

Well, I'm not sure what happened to the text of my message with photos. But I've been dismantling a 1954 Olds 88 and only have a few photos that might help you. There is a harness that runs down behind the kick panel that's already removed in my photo. Then it goes underneath a panel that runs underneath the door. I believe this harness came out behind the back seat side panel, and from there went back toward the trunk. Hopefully someone with a complete car can help clarify where it goes from the backseat to the back up lights. John

It has been a while but I ran new wiring from the switch to the backup lights. I ran it through the firewall and in the channel to the trunk. All you have to run is one wire and spit it in the trunk and run it through the opening in the trunk to the backup lights.

Thanks! I know the wiring in that harness and you are correct on the routing. Unfortunately it does not contain the backup circuit. The black wire in that harness should be for the tail lights, trunk light and LP lights.

Thanks, I expect that I will have to run a separate wire from the switch as you did. Where in the firewall did you go through??

Thanks Again guys!!

Well, it happened again! I typed in a message but when I added the photos it removed the text.

Oh well, I'm in the process of dismantling this 1954 and today I pulled the dash apart. I found a plug in the harness behind the instrument panel, it had a matching plug that held the wires heading back to the trunk area. If you need this plug and/or some wire to splice into let me know. John
