1969 Olds 442 Ignition switch help
I need to know how to replace ignition switch and key tumblr in 1969 Oldsobile 442. Key face plate does not have the small pin hole to insert paperclip into to remove cydlinder. I thought it was to good to be true to be a quick fix. Help, I am at a total loss.

The steering wheel and lock plate among some other things like the turn signal switch will need to be removed. This means needing a steering wheel puller and some snap ring pliers. The paper clip deal is for other/older models. 1969 was the initial year of steering column mounted key start.
Once your there, you'll need to locate the slot. This slot might be open and easily seen, but its probably covered in casting flash and you will have to break through it with a small screw driver or similar tool. Then the screw driver is inserted to press the spring loaded keeper and it should come out.
There are dozens of videos on you tube for this. Try to view ones where they are working on the older GM cars. They are almost all the same but with minor differences. These should give you an idea on how its done. Or try the related links below.
EDIT- check this out to get an idea. This link covers some things you don't need to know but its got good info in it.

The lock cylinder on the steering column is NOT the "ignition switch". The switch is on the top side of the column, down by the floor. A rod runs from the lock cylinder to the switch to actuate it. Which one do you really need to replace?

Yeah, except from the original post, it sounds like the OP thinks the electrical switch is right there, the way it is on the earlier cars with "the small pin hole". Back to my original question, is it the lock cylinder or the electrical switch that needs to be replaced, and why? On the 69-up cars, they don't both go bad at once.
