1157 Halogen tail &brake lights- turn signal bulbs

Have any of you installed 1157 Halogen tail light-turn signal-brake light bulbs in your car and had trouble getting them to work properly. I installed them in 67 Cutlass and the turn signals would not work with the lights on and some times both tail lights would blink at the same time. Put my old regular 1157 in and the lights-brake lights & turn signals worked like there suppose to.

If the turn signals don't work with the lights on, the problem is the ground. I've had this happen where the metal base of the bulb was slightly undersized, and coupled with a corroded socket, the ground path did not make contact.

I found that the halogen 1157 bulbs were too hot and also draw too much current.

Have you ever thought about LED replacement bulbs. I changed mine out and they are brighter x2, much cooler and will last long long time.

Next upgrade is the brighter head lights conversion. The dam T3s dont even look like they are on compared to my new daily drivers. How did we see back then...oh never mind dont answer that.

Good one!

Seriously, you'll need to select an appropriate LED conversion bulb. Google LED 1157. The local WalMart even sells them in the auto parts aisle. Be sure to get one that has LED elements on the sides as well as on top, so the reflector in the tail light housing works properly.

I think the nights are much darker now compared to how they were when we were young. The led's are a great invention!

Car is designed for white. Red might be bitching, but it might also suck.

My granddad put GE Halogens on my 72 in 73 or so. Still bright by modern standards.

The LED's are excellent especially for old wiring harness's take alot less power running through the switch and wires. If you replace your turn signals with LED's you need to buy an LED flasher or they will blink. And if you replace the T3 headlights with Halogens I would look into installing 2 relays. Theres alot DYI info on this subject.

I had to get a relay because there was not enough load to make my turn signals flash . I purchased a 13 dollar flasher relay ,then everything worked like a charm.

Yikes!
I just checked this out at O'Reily.
$24.99 for 2!

I like 'em, but not $12.50 a piece like 'em.

Yes Some of th better quality LEDs will run you 25 dollars +
apiece. My Toronado has 10 lights in the rear 2 up front ( not including the headlights) 4 in the interior doors 2 under the dash 2 in the interior rear and 2 side lights, oh and one in the trunk. Thats is 22 lights. I bought them one at a time so it didnt hurt so much..... but it brings me much joy knowing the driver behind me notices that I have applied my brakes. I still watch them closely though....
