Car has been sitting for a long time..I bought it from a friend of mine..His neighbor was going to junk it..My friend called me and told me if I am interested in the car..So I told him yes ..To make a long story short,he sent me some pics and told me that it has 270.000 miles on it..I told him that I will give them 500 bucks for the car if they can drive it to me..Anyhow when the car got there I paid for it and never bothered to look at it properly .When I did check it the miles were wrong...It has 27.000 miles one owner vehicle.Can this be true..The interior is perfect..some scratches here and there and very dusty ..

That car looks pretty good for 500 bucks.

Hi this is my first post.
This is my very first car ever back when I was 16. My dad purchased it from a Catholic Church. The nuns would only drive it to the store and back that's all. When I first saw it I could not wait to get rid of it. But being young and broke that just wasn't going to happen . Flash forward a few years I found the car to be full of memories now and a few dents the back seat really came in handy !!
So there is most definitely a soft spot in my heart for the Oldsmobile. Well thanks for reading. And in case you were wondering yes I still have the car. And I'm 33 this June ! She is of course garaged kept. I'll post later my idea of what I would like to rebuild the car like, if any one wants to see. No donk at all.

Very nice picture thread going on here; worthy of a sticky.
These were (in my opinion) the last of real luxury cars. Roomy, smooth riding, and more seat comfort than my LaZBoy. You could drive 300 miles and not feel fatigued.
Devil, I have a wire hubcap for an 80's Delta in my attic - want a spare?

My mom had an 86 Cutlass Brougham 4dr and it was very comfy. Had those pillowtop seats, even better than my couch! Even my 86 coupe has a great ride, even without the pillows. I would drive it over 200 miles and get out feeling like I drove 2. I miss cars like these and all the reason I keep my 86!
I am guessing the Deltas has quite a bit more room inside though, which would be even better. I remember seeing these cars on the road for a long time after the Cutlii of the same era diminished. If I had the room, i would love to have one for a DD.

Weird thing is after I sold my 96 Impala SS I wasn't interested in speed as much just cars I could drive across country have plenty of room and feel comfortable in.

Yep, i enjoyed the thread too and many others are joining as well. These cars are quite special I think - last of real luxury.

As for the wheel cover, it has been in the attic for 20 years, so "dusty" would be good guess. I will dig it out next time I get up there and check it out. It was good enough to save, I know that.

My 84 98 is pretty well equipped. the steering wheel is not stock but is Olds as are the wheels I have the wire hubcaps it came with .

When my 75 Delta convertible burned down, I've had an itching to get another Delta. I came across a 85 Delta 88 Coupe on Craigslist with no engine and transmission. The body and interior is immaculate. He wants 2K for it, but I've spent more than that on bodywork, paint job and interior on my other projects. I think I'm going to pull the trigger on this one and make a Holiday 88 Clone. It's easy to do. All you need are bucket seats from a G-Body Cutlass and console and shifter. Don't hate on me, but I'm putting in LS truck motor and a 4L65 E trans.

OK somebody school me on the differences between an 88(wagon or sedan) and a 98 as far as body differences go. What if anything is interchangeable? I am looking at a 98 body car and want to know if there is anything that is the same between the 2. I know that 98's are far harder to find. Also would the 98 use the 5x5 wheel bolt pattern of the wagon or the 5x4 3/4 bolt pattern of the sedan?

1982 Delta 88. Mint condition. The last pic i added a little flavor and set it as my background picture. Purchased from a really nice gentleman 1000 miles away who made sure everything went smooth. Drove the car from Northern VA to Louisiana no problems ! Originally I wanted a Caprice, as i've been looking for a Caprice nice enough to pull the trigger on for years. After an awkward confrontation with a scammer who seemed legit, since i had been in contact with him for 3 weeks, i stumbled upon this car the same day! Funny how things work..

Future plans are : Nothing much really ! Other than washing and detailing it every chance i get, I may convert to dual exhaust, while retaining the stock look, just to get a bit better gas milage. Also i may try to find a factory Oldsmobile cassette player that is a direct swap, so at least i could play my own music. The stock speakers still work very well, the quality is clear and the bass is actually noticeable. Impressive for a car thats older than me ! Other than that, i have no plans to change anything in this car. Everything works, all the way to the power antenna. It is in need of some rear bumper filler, as the bumper filler on the car is cracked up pretty bad.

Mine just got off punishment from the shop Had to get tranny and T/C fully rebuilt but its all new now with a 3 year warranty!!!

I picked this car up from my brother in law. It had been sitting for 8 years when I got it. I had wanted this car since my wife and I started dating and just this year convinced him to let me have it and fix it up. I picked up a 403 to rebuild and replace the 307 since it's tired out. I have been swapping out wheels and am going with 15 inch wheels with 275/60-15 rear and 245/60-15 up front. Has anyone ever tried fitting the 275s in the rear? Also will be installing a 4 link rear and running air ride or coilovers is there any suggestions for me?

Unless you're looking for something adjustable, the car already has a 4-link style rear from the factory.

Yes I was under the impression I wouldn't be able to install the airbags in the rear without installing the aftermarket 4 link. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I've got all new bushings in the rear and it still feels loose so I was going to use all solid heim joints. I've never built one of these 88s just lifted trucks and first Gen camaro and mustangs.

By adjustable, I meant being able to adjust the mount points of the 4 link bars. Ridetech has airbags that would replace the rear springs while leaving everything else the same.

Something like this:

Slight mods your current upper and lower spring mounts will be required. But that's a WHOLE LOT easier than replacing the entire rear set-up.

Steer clear of solid heim joints on a street car. These cars were meant to be cushy and you can't expect them to handle and perform like the vehicles you've worked with in the past.

Thank you for your input as I could use all the help I can get with this car. I will definitely look into those. I love the way this car rides down the road I am just used to my 69 rs/ss with the 572 crate and my 08 impala ss is there any other way to take the side to side sway out of it? I am having a heck of a time finding any parts here in Kentucky. And while we're at it can you sell me those wheels off your black car? Hehe what size tires can I get away with in the rear without tubbing and narowing it?

The wheels are repops from Wheel Vintiques that I got through Summit. They're 15X8 with the 4.75" bolt pattern. The tires are 255/60/15 all around so that I can rotate them as this is a daily driver. They're a bit tight on the front due to the cut coil springs. But the rears are wide open.

For a very short time I had a pair of 275/60/15 tires on 15X10 rims on the rear and they completely filled the rear wells and cleared everything without even needing the roll the rear lips.

Gotta love these "big" ladies. Can't beat the ride and comfort in cross country cruising. I have a 67 Delmont coupe. in a very slow process of cleaning up as weather permits. Have some health issues going on, but working thru them at this time. been around a long time and not taking care of myself, is the basic cause. This is my final "keeper", and I know we all say that.
