filler neck install.....

Today while filling up at the gas station I noticed gas leaking onto the ground, I crawled under the car and gave my fuel tank a visual inspection, the tank it fine but noticed all the gas was coming off the filler neck, after all these years I guess the seals have perished.

I wanted to know exactly how to replace the filler neck......does the whole fuel tank have to be dropped?

Thanks in advance for information guys.

So the seal between the tank and the filler neck?
I am pretty sure the tank would have to be dropped if so...

Stupid question, but any chance it is just the cap leaking and running down the filler neck? Maybe $10 for a new one before considersing dropping the tank.

normally the neck has to be welded to the tank unless you have something else. I know for a fact that if the neck needs welding the tank has to be boiled out or you can have a explosion there.

Looks like it would just be easier to install a brand new fuel tank that comes with the filler already attached.

A whole new tank with filler neck would be easier, but then you might have the same problem I now have. I'm not sure if you're familiar with my post about my gas tank problem. I replaced the tank, now i'm not able to fill up without gas backing up and overflowing out of the filler neck. It has to be pumped slowly or it won't accept it. Got a second tank under warranty and it has the same problem. Since you also have a delta 88 you would be getting the exact same tank I have. The company is called Spectra and they pretty much have a monopoly on new tanks, apparantly even other brands of tanks are just renamed spectra tanks.

Had to ask about the cap first, sometimes the easiest stuff is overlooked. Speaking of easy, might try good 'ol JB Weld if you can figure out where leaking. Just clean real well first. Agree that a new tank is best if the whole neck/tank joint is bad, assuming repop's are available for your model.

I saw the dorman but it's hard to tell if it's not just another spectra like others are.
