car sounds like it is really accelerated

Hey everyone, today I stepped on the gas pedal 4 times really hard (a mechanic recommended this to me when the shifting was a little late) When I turned it back on it was really accelerated. I put it in drive and when I let go of the brake the car will just blast off without touching the gas pedal. I will also reach speeds of 30 to 40 mph without stepping on the gas. What can I do to get the car back to idle normal again? My car has a carbureted 307 wth a 200 4r transmission and stock gears.

I had a very similar problem with my 79 88. It turned out to be the timing. Don't know if that would be the case for you, though. I'm still battling with my 88. It has a 403.

I had the same problem too, for me it turned out to be an adjustment on the carb. Idle screw on the left front side of the carb.

Has to be adjusted when the car's hot.

My mech also used the CPU to adjust the flow. He hooked into that green plug port in front of the carb

Thanks for you experience, Yesterday I called my dad and he said levers sometimes tend to get stuck on the carb so I have to get them unstuck, good to know I have plenty of suggestions to work with and none of them seem to be anything I cant handle to try. Thanks again. Ill post what it was when the car starts working.

Well today my dad saw the car. The problem was that front two barrels cant close properly because of carbon deposits. He said that to fix this we need to remove it and send it to get dunked in acid then rebuilt. I am also using this as an opportunity to clean the intake manifold's EGR discharge tubes. THanks for your help again.
