28 or 31 spline axle shafts??? O Axle

Hi guys,

Anyone knows what spline axles my rear end has...

It is a 1970 Cutlass S with originally open 2.56 rear end, stamp code R2.

Does it have 28 or 31 splines????

Where can i order them if i need someone of those???
I just found supercarsunlimited....

Thanks

Thank you Brian!!!!!
You are the master!

I thought ive ordered the wrong (31 spline) carrier...
i checked it, puuuuuh i have the 28 spline anti spin carrier

Can i contact you if i have any troubles with installing instead of backlash and play with the ring and pinion ????

Thank you so much!!!!

Best regards from Germany

Axles

I would STILL pull those axles and be sure they are the A9 2146 / 712146 seal on the axle and NOT the sealed bearing RW507cr in the tube seal axles.

Over 40 years things get all swapped in and out of cars.

Please double check before blowing a wade of money on shipping and might have to exchange them because they were the wrong year.

67 early 68 will have seal bearing axle shafts 68 late 69 70 will have the oiled bearing with seal ON THE AXLE shaft out board the bearing.

Were you buying NEW or buy good used replacements?

Jim

Good luck, Jim

super car prices

Description Part # Price Qty
66 B or P Axle Shaft 28 Spline
Fits all 1966 B or P 10 bolt rears. 46-182 $229.95
67-68 All O Axle Shaft. 31 Spline
Fits all 1967-1968 12 Bolt O axle. 46-180 $279.95
67-69 All O Axle Shaft. 28 Spline.
Fits all 1967-1969 12 Bolt O axle. 46-182 $229.95

THAT is for 1 axle shaft...OUCH.

They do not say if this is for a sealed bearing or oiled bearing axle shaft system. MY guess is this is for SEALED ONLY and you need the Oiled bearing set-up WHICH will not work with you 197o housing.
