starfire diff redo.

hello, was wondering if there is any feasibility and if it would be possible to take a nine inch rear diff and set it up to fit in my 65 starfire, by removing the pumpkin ears, and all the brackets, and changing the tube length if needed.the reason being is ,I just want better gears,i like the 0 to 60 thing, I would prefer like 433,s and all I can find is 355,s from fabcraft. any he[p or input on this would really be appreciated , thanks ,will

I believe Pontiac offered steeper gears for their big cars, probably hard to find too. The rear in your car is a Pontiac style rear so internals should swap over.

gears for the 8.875 pontiac full size car

Yep I had 2 sets of 4.33 gears years ago ...found them at swap meets and guys did not know what thye were so i got them cheap...lol. BUT that was then and this is NOW... 3.55 is very good ratio for all around performance... What gear is in your car now? If you go too far it will be a bastard to drive anywhere.

Your kind of picking the wrong car to accerate fast in...lol. You need a Olds starfire H-body 75-80 era lol.

I have 2 monzas and I use the one for drag racing the other might be taken by my daughter for the same darn thing..I wanted it to ne a street LS car...will see.

If you are going from 2.41 or 2.56 that 3.55 will be a pretty BIG jump for the torque out put.
Hope you find what your looking for.

9" is a degrade from what you have in the car now. You want a real rear stick with the 9.3 Olds Pontiac from 57-64... know that rear will take your big car power and weight. AND they have monster steep ratio for it. 4.10 4.30 4.56 4.88 5.14 5.38 6.14 etc.

I have housings here if you want to play.

starfire diff

thanks for the reply and the info, right now I have a 323.don,t want to be long winded, but my first starfire I bought in 1970,for 200.00, and I was use to 6 cylinders and half dead small blocks.it seemed like it would just fly, 95 mph top end ,but would get to 70 real fast , I could be going 35 and step on it and just start sliding,it did have a trailer hitch on it, I will keep in mind that you have some housings in stock, and again thanks for your help.will.
