71 Cutlass 12 bolt axle question
I have a 12 bolt rear out of 71 cutlass that my rear drivers side axle broke. Its a 28 spline does anyone know where to get a replacement? Is a 10 bolt rear drivers axle the same?
Thanks

A '71 Cutlass came from the factory with a 10 bolt cover & a 10 bolt ring gear. If your car has a 12 bolt cover & a 10 bolt ring gear, it may be an Oldsmobile rear end but you need to know for sure before you start buying parts. Can you post a picture of your cover & any letters on the side of the differential along with pictures of the ribs on the sides of it. I have a 12 bolt Olds. rearend that I just pulled an axle out of for another guy. If it is indeed an Olds. rear end that you have, I may have an axle for you.
I "think" the axles are the same as far as 10 or 12 bolt, assuming they both have 28 splines.

1970 is usually oiled bearing
1967-1969 is normally sealed bearing axle.
You do need to know which one you have before ordering.
Studs new are 1.15 each installed.
