rear diff info
OK ... Let me see if I can weed through this...
IF you have a 1972 posi 3.42 you most likely have a 10 bolt 8.5 rear from a cutlas or skylark
NOW if your putting 3.23 into it (8.5) you will not need to change the carrier.
IF you are using a 7.5 the carrier breaks are 2.14-3.08 2 series and 3.23 -4.56 are 3 series carrier gears.
NOW if you want to use 3.23 GM gears on a 2 series carrier you can use a 7.5 ring gear spacer kit with correct length bolts included. ( I have these kits also for 45.00)
The aftermarket does sell 3.23 thick gears to fit the 2 series carrier also.
Yes you can get a 3 series carrier from any 1976-1988 camaro s-10 malibu monte carlo all with 26 spline axles. YOU can aslo use the 1989-2003 7.6 newer units in your 7.5 housing with no other modifications other than the 28 spline axles sold in the after market.
Good luck with the choice, Jim
