Drive Shaft Length

Hello all,

I am trying to find the drive shaft length for 71 442 4 speed car. I've looked through the Assembly and Service manuals with no luck. Where can I find the drive shaft length?

Should be ~54 3/8” center to center on the u-joint holes. This assumes the correct 71 Muncie and 71 10 bolt rear axle are still in the car.

About 55 inches out side
you can fine tune the shaft with the yoke
Cut it down and bevel / polish that

Guessing the 70 is different because of the different rear end than in 71??

The car does have the original rear end and transmission, so is the correct length 54 3/8" or 55"??

The difference in driveshaft length for 71/72 cars is due to both the difference in the 70/71 rear axles and the difference in
length of the 71 and later Muncies (about 3/4” longer than 64-70 Muncies). I checked the driveshaft for my 72 4 speed 442 and it is ~54 3/8” c-to-c and the rear axle and Muncie are original 72 parts.

There are guides online about measuring for replacement driveshafts, so it may be a good idea to double check your car’s requirements in case you’re buying a replacement.
