72 Cutlass 2 door post
Just wondering if anyone can tell me how rare a 1972 Cutlass 2 door POST
is. Have had a number of people trying to buy this car off me since I aquired it in a deal which I got the better end of! Am hearing that his is a really hard to find car. Just curious how many were made vs how many are likely left etc etc.

I was just going to trade it off for yet another Harley,,,but then it happened..I took it out for a drive.. So now its not forsale..and have thought of an electric fence to put around it so I dont have to yell "get the F*%k away from my car..and no it's not forsale. The car has not rust even in the deepest corners underneath, couple stone chips in hood. Rebuilding the transmission this week I hope before she goes away for the winter into storage. On the bad side, interior is beat up, need bench seat recovered and springs fixed if I cant find a replacement close, and need carpet and door panels. Regardless, I think I will just keep her and redo the interior and drive her..85000 orig miles

Once again, "rare" is not the same thing as "valuable". The post cars are rare now because few people wanted them when they were new. The post cars were usually a stripped loss-leader. Hardtops outsold them by very large margins because the look better. The post cars were usually turned into race cars because they were slightly lighter than the hardtops. How much it is worth to you is your call, but it seems that anyone trying to sell a post car thinks it's worth a million bucks because it's "rare". Just keep in mind that Pontiac Azteks are also rare...

Good point, Joe. I remember reading an article a few years back, discussing that very issue. The example they gave was a 60's something full size chevy that was one of only 2! Now that is RARE. But it was 1 of only 2 equipped with a 4 cylinder engine, intended for taxi cab use. Even the cab companies didn't want it with a 4 cylinder.
That is not to slam your Cutlass, because it too can be a nice old car and give you many years of pleasurable driving. Enjoy it.

Car looks great
I believe Rambo on this site may be able to help with the seat. From the pictures the car looks good. If you like it enjoy it. Most people on the street I run across just enjoy that a cutlass looks good and reminds them of a past car or relationship that exposed them to that car. Post cars are desirable to a number of people. I inspected one for a member on here that was looking for a rust free one. Good luck and enjoy your good fortune of owning an olds.

Don't knock the Gremlin. A 72 Gremlin X was my very first NEW vehicle purchase. Paid extra for the V8 instead of getting AC and automatic. Not the most powerful engine around but since there was no weight on the rear end I could smoke those tires all day long.

Ummm if you love it, who are we to suggest otherwise??
Now 68/69 AMX? that's a different story. It actually looks like the competition it was spoda provide the other big 3's performance offerings. They are extremely scarce, so good luck finding one. I do like that they were only a 2 seater with a big block.
