Does anyone make a reproduction speedometer for a 71 Cutlass floor shift
The speedometer on my 71 Cutlass supreme convert with floor shift has been acting up. At the 1 mile odometer rollover it would stick for a while then clear. At the 10 mile rollover it would stick longer and then clear. Now it is stuck on the 100 mile rollover and will not clear. Needle jumps back and forth about 10 mile/hr.
Can it be cleaned/lubed? Does any one make a reproduction for the speedometer. I've upgraded to a 700R4 with the 455 upgrade so I can go electric or mechanical, but can't find a reproduction.
Has anyone swapped the guts for an electronic and still have it look original?
Thanks,
Jay

To your original questions, yes it is possible to disassemble the speedo, clean it, and lube if needed. The odometer roll has thin, fragile tabs that stick out between each of the number wheels. These tabs fit into notches to prevent the wheels from rotating all the time. Be VERY careful when disassembling as the tabs break very easily. This is intentional to thwart odometer tampering.
