Divorced choke replacement coil?

Divorced choke replacement coil?
My choke doesn't function correctly. I believe that the coil is done and doesnt completely unwind. I tried looking for a replacement online and quarajetparts.com has a three different styles but none of them look exactly like the one on the car right now (68 Cutlass Supreme/350 Rocket/4 Barrel Quadrajet). Here are a couple photos if someone is able to help me find a replacement or tell me which one would work that would be great. This is where I found the replacements:

Supercars Unlimited has them and their website shows a price of $84.95. The Parts Place shows them for $89.95. And there may be other sources (Fusick doesn't list them). Here's a photo from Supercars Unlimited.

I wonder if the crossover passage in the intake is stopped up with carbon and not transferring heat to the choke coil. If it is, a new expensive choke coil won't help.
Buddy, does the spring feel weak or really light tension? Try putting it in the refrigerator (40 degrees) for a few hours and let it retract fully. When it's fully retracted, mark the rod where it comes out of the housing.
Then run some hot tap water, 120 degrees or so, and put it in that til it extends as far as it will. Mark the rod at fully extended position. Then measure distance between the two marks. That should tell you if it's functioning.

You've explained a way nof testing which isn't complicated and without a lot of expensive Tools either... Good job now u can come over to my place and solve all my Olds related problems!!!

And the replacements aren't exact, either!
Just put one on a BB Chevelle, which I thought would take about 10 min.!!
Took 1/2 hour to modify the 'chineseium' cover to work correctly and snap on the base!
Make sure the phillips hold-down screws are clean, and you've a good screwdriver, too.

The replacement choke thermostats for the 68/69 4 bbls are correct and fit just fine. I bought one and installed it in a matter of minutes. It also is held in place with a 1/4 bolt with a 7/16 cap screw head.
Rocketraider makes a good point on your problem. If you choke engages but does not fully open, there may be an issue with the heat cross over passage in the manifold. It could be blocked by carbon deposits or maybe someone in the past intentionally blocked them off. If the spring moves based on the testing suggested, I would be certain you have the correct rod between the choke and carb and that it's installed correctly. If so, there may that issue of the crossover keeping sufficient heat from the choke thermostat.
