307 to 350 swap AC question
Hello list, can anybody on the list enlighten me on the situation involving doing a swap from a 307Y to a olds 350 in my 86 olds cutlass supreme. Im asking the question of how to wire the pressure switch to the compressor so the AC will work when i remove the ECM from the car. Its my understanding that the AC is controlled by an input to the compressor from the ECM on 86 and newer cutlasses and that on 85s and older the wiring is that the AC compressor is controlled directly by the pressure switch. Has anybody done this engine swap and dealt with the AC issue im describing? if so, can you fill me on your experience. thanks

AC issue
So are you saying that was your fix? with the AC? how did taking a bulb out of the dash fix the AC problem?
I had an 85 Delta and dealt with the same issue.
I left the ECM in the car and took the bulb out of the dash for "check engine"

What he's saying is he left the ECM in the car so the A/C would function properly and he removed the bulb from the check engine light socket because it would be on all the time due to the rest of the computer system not being hooked up.

Unfortunately, without the throttle position sensor on the CCC carb, you've disabled the ECM and the A/C control anyway. The compressor will now be on all the time the A/C is on, even at WOT. If you want the compressor to disengage at WOT, you need to wire a throttle switch, as seen on the pre-1985 G-body cars.

wiring switch for 85 cutlass AC
Exactly as youve stated Joe, i need to wire a throttle switch......hence my question of how to do that. Are generalizing it that thats what i need to do to use my AC without an ECM or can you ellaborate on that, because in doing this swap i was just made aware of this issue from a member of another forum i belong to and quite honestly, short of doing it i dont know how to do it exactly. Can you ellaborate?

Are you running the oem gauge cluster.. much of the lights and not sure when but at some point the ecu feed the gauges, not the senders the senders sent the signal to the ecu than the ecu to the gauges..
might be later than 86. not sure..
no reason to remove the ecu..

I would do anything for torque...I'd plug a tire when I heard that hiss...
But I'd never give you less than high test anyhow...
Oh, no....no way...
And I would do anything for torque, I would do anything for torque,
I would do anything for torque, but I won't do this....
No, I won't do this.
