No Vinyl to Vinyl top
Okay I may be crazy to some, but I like to look of the vinyl tops on these cars and I want to add it to my 1972 Supreme. I am having a little trouble locating the 5 pieces of molding necessary to complete the job. I see that many companies make only the corner pieces? What's up with that?
Anyhow, my question is, has anyone attempted this? I can see in the "Body by Fisher" manual that the moldings are held on by plastic clips which attached to welded studs attached to the body. Is that correct? I also can see that the corner piece attaches a little differently. I can't tell if the studs are welded to the car or there are holes with attaching nuts on the inside. If you have done this, how did you go about identifying where the studs should be etc. Did you actually weld them on or did you drill holes and use something else? Anyone knowing options on this would be appreciated.

i am far from an expert on the subject but i have seen where someone used pop rivets to install the plastic clips. i have all 5 trim pieces you are looking for. i think they are all in nice shape. the corner pieces may be a little dull but i can't remember. i will not be home till Monday so if interested PM me early next week.

To answer your question about the corner pieces, yes, they mount with nuts on the inside through holes. I agree with you about the appeal of the vinyl roof on that body style. The body lines lend themselves to it. I hope you find the pieces and can complete your project. And post pics please.

Those studs can be welded on using a dent puller stud welder with a molding rivet tip in few minutes. A body shop would probably do it for a small fee unless you have access to one. The less holes through the body the better in that area but they do also make screw-in rivet studs for that.
I would get the moldings then line up and mark where the holes and studs need to be and go for it.
I agree that vinyl tops do look really good on the Supremes.
BTW, the molding attachments and type are shown in the '71 Fisher Body manual.
