64/65 manual console

Are they the same? What are the differences if any? Overall shape the same? Could I interchange them with minimal changes, such as paint or add a different cover?

All 1964-69 MT consoles use the same molded plastic parts. The later consoles that don't use the tach or vacuum gauge have a rocket logo that bolts over the holes. The shift pattern emblem is also different for 3- or 4-speeds and for 1969 where is says "LOCK". Also, the rubber boot will differ depending on the use of the round or rectangular shifter stick.

So, a '65 Cutlass 4sp console would be the exact same as a '64 Cutlass 4sp console short of the shifter boot. I had someone tell me once the tops were different colors or something, but not sure. lights and compartments are equal too?

The tops on both are chrome plated. The 1964 I have clearly was painted black in the middle. The 1965 I have is kinda rough, so I can't tell if it was painted black and just weathered off or never was. I used to have a 1968 with a console and I'm sure it was painted black too. So I'd be inclined to think they all were. Stan, do you remember what was suppose to be different on them? John

It needs restored, but here's the one in a 1964. You can see where the ribbed portion was painted black. That's the top area I was referring to.
