1966 Full Size Suspension Upgrades??

I figure I will be replacing a number of bushings and suspension parts this summer when working on the car. Whenever I do suspension work on cars I like to upgrade the suspension components as much as possible. Mostly bushings etc but am having a hard time finding anything for a 1966 Ninety Eight LS.

Anyone know of companies that make parts for these cars?

Check these sites - www.p-s-t.com and www.kanter.com

You can also look for "Just Suspension" but I don't have the site.

SO would this kit work for my car??? Were GM full size vehicles pretty much all the same?

I bought the front end rebuild kit for my '67 88 from Kanter. It included all new rubber bushings. Most of the bushings are available separately from NAPA, too. Although I'm not sure if I would want to use polyurethane bushings on a Ninety Eight, I believe Energy Suspension makes a poly kit for 65-70 full size Olds.

I bought PST suspension parts for my 64 98 years ago. If I did it again I would order from Kanter instead. When I bought the kit from PST it was missing a few "hard to find" items. It seems that Kanter has more complete kits. FWIW, I used the rubber instead of the poly bushings.

The 61-64 full size cars are different from the 65-70 cars. I believe Energy Suspension lists a bushing kit for the 65-70 D88s. The 98 should use the same kit.

I would suggest you don't use Polyurethane. Use the original rubber or upgrade to Polygraphite for a little more durability and no squeeks.

Regardless, if one were to rebuild the suspension on their car they should be sure the kit they purchase is complete. I think the PST kit I got for my 64 98 was missing inner tie rod ends and front sway bar to frame bushings. I think the kit sold by Kanter is complete.

Good points by all.

I wish they had new trailing arm kits for the rear suspension as well. Geeze they have kits for Full Size Chevys. Why couldn't Olds just use the same parts!!!!

Hmmm... can you get trailing arm kits from Fusicks? This is something that I have never done.

The 65-70 big cars use the same lower control arms as the A-body cars...not sure about the uppers, but bushings are bushings?

Are you sure? Moog lists different lower bushings and ball joints for the A-body and B/C body cars in those years. A-bodies use K5103 ball joint and either K6067 (oval) or K5149 (round) bushings. The B bodies use K5073 ball joint and K5144 bushings.

Perhaps if I used Norm's posting technique, there would not have been any confusion.

X2 I used Kanter for a full front end kit for my '65 Jetstar 1. Price was excellent, everything was what it should be and no issues with fit.
(And FWIW, what a difference it made!)

I used the Kanter kit (upper and lower bushings, ball joints, etc.)for my 66 Delta88. The rubber cracked on the sway bar linkage within a year. I called up Kanter and they sent me a new sway bar kit with no charge. Still look good 7 years later.

Probably wouldn't have cracked if you kept it on all 4 wheels!

But you do bring up a good point: Check them later and don't just presume they are good.
