I was having a chat with my niece about your first car. She was lucky enough to have a nice uncle that bought her a £9k mini, mine on the other hand was a real pile of crap, it was a 1978 Talbot Avenger which cost me £200, this was in 1986. Painted in a nasty shade of blue it was probably the worst car I have ever owned but I still think back to how much fun it was at the time. Be interesting to hear about your first car.

My first car that I bought was 1979 Buick Regal turbo coupe. Nice looking car but was one the worst cars I have ever owned a real lemon for sure.

In 1964 my first car was a '57 Chevy Belaire 2dr. Ht., 2 tone green with green interior. Was a 3 speed on the tree when I got it, with the 4bbl 283. When I finally sold it (in 1968 when I left for Viet Nam) it had a freaked out 327, Headers and Collectors (as we used to call them) Muncie 4 speed w/Hurst linkage, 456 Posi, 64 Dodge Green & Black naugahide interior. Raised up, coke bottle mags & red line tires. Kept me broke, but what fun I had with it. In fact, I also had some other 'firsts' in that car.....

Here is my first car! Bought it in New London, CT, in April 1972 for $1810. It had 44,600 miles on it. Whoever owned it before me blew the engine and it had a '70 455 in it with a THM on the console - a 1970 console. I don't know what the differential was but I do know I could bark the tires going into 2nd gear and 3rd gear if I did it manually. It would dash to 80mph but there wasn't much left after that! Sold it in Concord, CA, in April 1981 for $1000.

My first car was a 67 Cutlass Supreme 2dr hardtop. Gold with black interior, HC330/jetaway on the column. Bought for $500 in 76 from my aunt. The one I have now was bought as a father/son project because I thought it would be cool for my son to have the same first car as me. Didn't work out...

1961 Triumph Herald, left hand drive built for export, I bought when I was stationed at RAF Bentwaters, Suffolk, England in 1965. Fun little car but wiring would smolder every once in awhile. Owned 2 Triumph TR6's later in the 70's. They were great cars.

70 Supreme w/ 71 or 72 nose (can't remember), ran & drove great. Managed to blow a couple of rear tires out on smoke show day @ school w/ decently tuned (for my knowledge) 350 4v w/ headers. Bought for $800 in 79 or 80, killed by a little ole lady that ran a stop sign in front of me 2 weeks after a fresh paint job. Recycled the drive train twice in other cars - 68 & 69 Cutlii. It got me hooked on Olds.

Burgundy Mist that my dad gave me in 1978 which he bought new. I recently replaced that car with Freds 442....who btw is a very nice man.

In 1978 I bought a 1974 Mercury Capri 4 banger from my step fathers brother for $800, 1st thing I did was chrome paint the wheels and cut a sunroof in....my 1st semi conv I was 15 and had to wait a year before I could drive it Great car....the 4 speed sure helped me light em up Then a 1971 Chevelle conv in 1980.....then my 1970 Olds CS conv in 1983 that I paid $2000 for.....still have purchase receipt and build sheet Should have never sold her All good finally got another one 30 yrs later

Mine was a 68 Mercury cougar given to me from my step father when I was 14 years old. It needed motor trans and paint and interior cleaning. I wasn't passionate about starting the project so I found a running 64 F100 short bed 6 banger just needed paint , drove it around Tinley park Illinois solo with a learners permit summer of 1985 I was 15 years old. The cougar was eventually sold.

1978 Datsun 710, or mabe it was a 1977, bought it for $1 from a relative. Drove it for two years, and the timing chain was still clanging when I drove it to the wreckers .think it weighed more too

My first was a 1955 Chevy BelAir convertible, in 1959. A 4 year old car with 100K on the odometer, was considered worn out. It was a 265 C.I. V8 with a cast iron Powerglide. I spent a year "restoring" that car, and drove it to college. On the way home for the Thanksgiving break, I burned a couple of exhaust valves, and was planning to fix it over the Christmas break. I took my fathers car back to school, and when I came home for Christmas, my folks had scrapped the car. In its place was a used Corvair 4 door...

1st was a 69 88 4 door. Worked all Summer to get up the $400 to buy it. I was 14. The dealership delivered it to our house out in the country back then. My father got home from work and was pissed that they would sell a car to a 14 yr old. I got to keep it, but could only drive it on the farm, yeah right. Sorry dad. That was it for me, I have been hooked on Oldsmobiles ever since.

As embarrassed as I am to admit mine was a 1969 Morris 1100 S. Truly hideous front wheel drive pommy car. Up side it was cheap to run and the front seat folded back to make a bed, as a teenager this one feature alone was worth it . It only lasted 12 months of punishment before it totally knackered and replaced with a way cooler 1977 XC Ford Falcon.

72 Monte Carlo my granddad ordered new to keep up with the 71 Vette my dad bought used from a guy who had to deploy to Korea from Little Rock, where he was doing Air Force dentistry at the time. Granddad passed in 87, Dad kept it running when he came to see grandma in Terre Haute. We got it back on the road in 02. I took it to college for my last two years there. Now it lives at home and goes for drives and car shows with me. I bought my 442 since there was basically nothing to do on this one except drive and maintain it, needed a project.

A 1955 Morris Minor. Two piece windshield, driving it in the rain was lie peering out of a gun turret, The engine had been upgraded from the original 803cc lawnmower engine to a 1098cc lump. Even so it couldn't get out of its own way, just as well I suppose because the handling and brakes were hopeless as well. The trunk that would accommodate maybe a cigarette pack, and with careful loading a lighter as well.
My parents and his buddies encouraged me to buy the car, saying things like "They don't make them like that anymore". Bloody good job they don't!. Also it kept breaking down, which highlighted it's one saving grace, it was quite easy to work on during it's frequent lapses in mobility.
I also had a Triumph Herald and Austin 1100 soon after the Morris. Then I got lucky, I bought a car from a back street dealer one wet night after I'd had a few beers, yet it turned out to be a reliable economical and relatively brisk and comfortable car. I was surprised to find it didn't need oil every time it needed fuel too. Since then I have been a fan of GM cars, Vauxhalls and Oldsmobiles being my most frequently owned cars.

My first car was given to me by my parents in early 80s. It was a 72 Oldsmobile Toronado. I drove that car for a couple of years and then bought a Red 84 Pontiac Fiero. Talking about size difference . I think the hood on the Olds was longer than the whole Fiero!!!

My first car was a 1962 Chevy Corvair Monza coupe which I purchased in 1965. It was a four speed stick car with a white exterior and red interior. It was fun to drive and had great traction in the abundant snow we receive here during Michigan's winters!

72 Eldorado, I didn't own a car until I was 23. After graduating college everyone who had a beater bought new or slightly used cars. Not me I bought an old boat that wasn't really a beater. I drove it for 8 years.

57 Volkswagen bug converted to a fiberglass dune buggy that were popular in the 70s. My dad and I built it together and when I got my license he gave it to me. It was lime green and I think the paint had just shy of about 500lbs. of metal flake in it, you know the huge metal flake. It was fun to drive if it wasn't raining.

1971 Monte Carlo solid Sandalwood with saddle buckets console interior. Dad bought it 77/78 and I bought it from him in 86 when he bought a new 86 Monte SS that only has 12k miles today! I still have my Monte and always will.

On another note, my Dad's first car was a 1940 Chevy coupe that he bought in 1960, he still has it today as well and it will always say in the family at least as long I have it.

My first car was my dads 71 Cutlass S. Lime green with bucket seats and console. He bought it new and gave it to me when I turned 16. It was 1985 and he had just gotten a newer car for himself (77 Monte Carlo) I was lucky to get the car for my birthday. Not many of my friends had a car at that age! I probably would not own 2 Oldsmobiles today had this not occurred back then!

My first car was a hand me down, 66 Impala Sport Coupe. Light yellow, black bench cloth interior. Three on the tree, 283 2bbl. I put a 4 bbl and dual exaust. Some dark center mags, cant remember the brand. It was a nice car, and ran pretty good for a 283. Wish I still had it. Just before I bought my 67 442 that im restoring now, I was debating the Olds vs a 66 Impala. I have a gauge console and bucket seats for a 66 Impala. Anyway the Olds won, guess ill keep the Impala stuff just in case.

My folks bought a 67 442 gold with parchment bench seat and a 4 speed new. Dad did not want me to drive it so he traded it in on a new 73 Chevy pu. I was hurt to say the least. I was flipping burgers at DQ when a guy drove in, in a 67 442 Tahoe Turquise black interior 4 speed bench seat with US slot mags and headers with purple horneys on it. I bought it for $450 that was 76. My first car. The convertible I have that my dad and I bought together in 79 has the left quarter panel off that car on it.

My first ever ride was a 1954 Plaza, 4-door sedan, in Shasta Green. It was 8 years old by the time I got it and a veritable piece of junk. One never left home without the toolbox in the trunk. I hated that car!

Guys: The first car I had that was mine only, was a 66 Olds Cutlass that I still own. I got it back in 1974 while still in high school. We are currently doing a major restoration on it, quite a few of the items came from you guys on the CO site. There is NO way I could have gotten it to this level without your help and advice. I am sure I will be bugging a few more of you before I'm done.
