Who says Buicks are for old farts
I bought my wife a nice 08 Buick Lacrosse Super. It's got a 5.3 V8 and is supposed to go 156 mph. I'm telling you the thing is fast. Some day I'm gonna blow some kid away with his tuner rice burner and he's gonna wonder what happened.

Doesn't sound too bad for the "official car of the AARP"! HaHa
Seriously, I've been thinking a Buick might be my next new car now that Olds is no longer available. My 08 Malibu LTZ has been a very good car but I think I can do better. I might even consider a slightly used Cadillac.

In January of 06 I bought my wife a Lucerne, one of the first the local dealer received in shipment. It has the Northstar and now has around 97K. Never any trouble. Will still run over 120, looks new because it is garage kept, and gets over 17 mpg local driving. On the highway, can get around 26 if I can find gas without ethanol, still gets 24 with it. Greatest car we have bought since Olds went out.

Since Olds went away, I moved up the GM ladder to Buick as well. I'm driving a 2012 Regal GS, beautiful car. Manual shift and Brembos make it fun. I kept my 02 Intrigue for a winter car as it is in such good condition and also due to the fact they're not worth much of anything.

The 08 is on the old platform, but compared to my 00 Park ave ultra it's a whole new generation. I feel the bumps alot more and isn't as mooshy in the corners. I think the bumps are exaggerated by the 18" rims. It took a while to get used to.

I also now have a Buick (2009 Lucerne CXL Special Edition)... Purchased new and mainly used for trips.... Very nice riding and comfortable Bucket Seat / Floor console interior (of which I've seen only a few).... It's not an Olds.... But I was in the market for a new vehicle and that fit the bill....

I had a 2009 LaCrosse as a rental when I was in Maine back in '09. VERY nice car, probably the most luxurious car I had from my usual "full-size" choosing.
I think it got 27mpg for the whole trip and was very comfy. Certainly not an 'old fart's' car. I was happy with it - almost shoulda been in the 'luxury' class. The next year in Oregon I got stuck with an Altima, so the rental agency got back at me...

Buick had a marketing issue on introducting the LaCrosse in Canada. Seems "La Crosse" has quite a different meaning in Quebec. Looks like they said the heck with it and went ahead with the same badging as the rest of the country.

The 2014 Impala is on the same platform as the new Lacrosse and should be available in LTZ form, if you're looking for something a little sportier.
EDIT: found a LTZ pic.

Buick has been making great cars for many years, but like someone else said, their designs
were boring and targeted at retiree's for many years. Interiors were the biggest complaint
which lacked attractive design for what GM claims as an entry level Luxury brand.
They are finally getting away from the Sexgenarian and older consumer styling and going at
the younger consumers with the 2010+ model styling. GM pumped $5 billion into redesigning
Cadillac to be a more youth aggressive styled brand and it succeeded. So Buick was the next
brand for the new styling. The new 2010+ Buick LaCrosse and new Buick Regal GS (sport) are
phenomenally designed vehicles that are attracting many to them.
2009 and earlier LaCrosse interiors.
2010+ Buick Lacrosse , just an absolutely awe inspiring change to the comfort zone of the owner.
THIS makes you feel like you're in a Luxury brand vehicle. Leaps and bounds advanced of where they were.
IT does 14.6 ET in the 1/4.
You'll probably whip on the 8th generation Civic Si's which are 4 bangers with 200hp.
I wouldn't mess with the Subaru's and Lancer EVO's tho.

The 2010+ LaCrosse is the same vehicle class as the Cadillac CTS but it's bigger.
IT's waaaaay nicer too. The picture above is the new LaCrosse interior.
I think the EXTERIOR of the CTS is the most attractive part, but the interior.....not as jazzy.

Technically speaking his 2008 is before the GM Bailouts.
So if his is Govt Motors, that also makes any Oldsmobile classic a Govt motors to be the same perception.
I think I see a GM vehicle in that garage avatar there no ??
I hear you on the not supporting the "New GM" though......
It bothers me greatly that they got $45 billion in new profits they can write off for ~10+ years without paying any taxes on them.
Look at Ford even , building the new Mid Size best selling market vehicle (Fusion) in Mexico now........to me that's not "Domestic".
Domestic = built by Americans with American parts. I could care less where the leather office executive chairs are.
A new Honda Accord is more "Domestic" then that Ford Fusion is.

Ok, the 2008 is exempt although GM was essentially bankrupt even then.

Get an SHO Taurus. Put in a Livernois tune, drop it, add an air box and exhaust and go 12.30s all day long. I have one. Love it. Big plus is they are made in Chicago about 20 miles from me.

That 2010 Lacrosse interior is awesome, The pic looks a little altered like its a cockpit of a plane, but it sure got my attention. After the Lacrosse sport I have has served its purpose I'll be looking for the newer body style and interior for sure hopefully they can perform like my 08. .

My 2007 Buick Lacrosse CXL is the first new car I ever bought, and I love it. We could afford for me to trade her in and get a newer model or other make/model, but I won't even entertain the idea. This car is comfortable, reliable, and sexy with that Midnight Amethyst paint job that I love. And she's fast! Not an "old fart"'s car at all. I'll never love her as much as I love the Cutlass, though!

Lacrosse claimed its first victim.
My son had our Super Lacrosse out the other day getting a pizza or something and a Mazda something or other was next to him at a light on the highway. They made eye contact and the light turned green and the Mazda unexpectedly dumped the clutch so our Buick got a late start. And by the time the traction control let the Buick loose the Buick had 2 car lengths to make up. By the time the buick got into second gear it was slowly creeping by a shocked kid in a Mazda.

OP - how is the torque steer in that car? My mother has a 2000 Impala on the same platform & even with the 200HP V6 it has torque steer.
