weirdest homemade modification on car

Just seeing if some saw a weird modification on a car. Back in the 80's in my hometown. I came across a 74 pinto station wagon. They cut the roof off, all the way to the back to the front seats. Put a piece of plywood behind the seats with a window in it. Made a pinto pickup. A real homemade job with a saw. I'll never saw anything like that again. (knock on wood). And yes i lived in a tweeker town.

There was another Pinto with a 351W in it doing street racing in Chicago - glued black **** carpeting to the whole car, [why???] and called it the Wooley Mammoth!
Really cleaned up on the streets!
Saw it on 'PINKS' once, when they weren't showing times - it won!

A friend of mine growing up had a '63 Dart .
He welded the drivers rear door , and passengers front door shut and sheet metaled over the rear windows , and molded them in . Then removed everything but the drivers seat , and put thick foam on the floor , and covered the whole inside , except for the windshield and front door glasses , with thick **** carpeting . was a total beater on the outside . Looked like a smoking clown car when he pulled up and the doors opened and everyone piled out .
We called it half baked .

Then theres this thing running 'round here .

Uh, this one wins, hands down!

I remember where someone took a land yacht and actually made it look like a boat.......

The Pinto pickup musta been a more popular conversion, as I remember seeing a blue one in a parking lot back in the 80's.

Back in the 70's, we cut 2 VW bugs in half and welded the 2 nose sections, moded 1 side for the transaxle and motor.

Perfect for the driver who just doesn't know which way he/she's going!

There was an episode of CHiPs long ago when someone did that to a Citation, drove it on the freeway and freaked out a bunch of drivers who thought he was going the worng direction...

yeah i was looking at v8conversion.com and saw that the focus could take a v8! also a volvo 200 or 700 series can be modified for a ford 5.0 or chevy 350 and a mazda rx7 can fit a corvette motor!

Freaks? Those guys have talent. Not everyone has the ability to work with metal and fibreglass. What they did is kind of like the show "Car Warriors" when the Datsun 240Z was redone into "Speed racer". They obviously had a plan for that car and followed through. The design flows well from the front to the back. Maybe not everyone's dream ride, but I think the result looks pretty cool. Would like to see the interior.

It would appear there's a big difference for interpretation of 'redneck'.

That looks like it took a ton of work to make that car into a ferrari.

Dad's toy

My dad built this in the early 80's after mom wrecked the Jimmy. He used a '70 442 and put in on the '73 GMC Jimmy frame. It has the GMC 350 in it because the Olds didn't have the motor. In the pic it's sitting on 38" tires with several inches of body and suspension lift. He has since lowered it a little, it's on 33's now. He doesn't drive it much now but he still has it.

I haven't seen anything out of the ordinary in awhile, but I have a friend who went to the Art Car Parade in Houston back in 2011. I really enjoyed going through the photo gallery with him on that one, not sure if you can call them modifications or not, but most look pretty homemade.
