Mike, Long story made short, I used to only have a crawl space in my 1896 house. but I got tired of crawling so I dug a basement on the back side and put in a screen porch over it. with and outside entrance to the porch and to the kitchen [walking thru the porch.] The porch has a ceiling under it so it's insulates the new basement where the hot water heater and furnace are no relocated.

I just built the wall to put all the dirt from digging the basement and sorta levels out the walk from the garage to the back steps of the porch. It used to slope down like the grass area on the left side of the pic

Stimulating the six inches between my ears w/ some light reading this evening. First black hole image could change everything we know about the universe.
Sagittarius A (the black hole in the center of our Milky Way Galaxy) is a paltry 4 million times as massive as our sun & a short distance away -- a mere 26,000 light years.
The singularity of a black hole contains infinite mass - infinite mass.

Good Evening Guys:
I am a happy guy this afternoon and you all know why. The 54 is purring like a kitten. It was the vacuum leak it the base of the carb. I had an insulator under the carb I bought from Fusick. It was like 4 thick gaskets stapled together. I did not put a gasket between it and the carb. When I took the carb off I could see where it had sucked the starting fluid I had sprayed in it. So I began what I knew was going to be a futile effort. I called O'Reilly and they could have it in about 3 days. Then I called my least favorite which is AutoZone. They do have one old parts guy there but I got some goofball when I called. I told him listen very carefully, I need a carburetor base gasket for a 1954 Oldsmobile Super 88. The first words out of his mouth were "this is a Ford". He couldn't get an order at McDonalds correct. Then he says, we can have it here by 3:00. I said so lets be sure we have this correct and he say it is an exhaust flange gasket. No, it is a carburetor base gasket. Oh, we don't have that. Then I call NAPA which is not as convenient. The guy says we have a universal gasket. Okay, put two of them on the counter and I will be over. Get there and an older guy (in his 60's) waits on me. He is an oldtime parts man. Of course there is not gasket for a 65 year old car in the computer. He goes and digs out an old parts book and we match the gasket up. The number is not in the computer since the book was dated 1999. So, I buy a package of gasket material can come home and made my own gasket. I have one of those cheap Chineseum gasket maker sets that has come in pretty handy. My gasket looked pretty dang good. I put the insulator on and my gasket on top of it and put the carb on. Cranked the old girl up and she sang to me. She is pulling a little over 15 inches of vacuum which is not bad for an old car with worn rings and a stretched timing chain. The weather is supposed to be good Saturday and we have a local car show in Rowlett. Thank all you guys for your suggestions and especially you Norm. Life is good now. Instead of my usual beer in the afternoon, I am visiting Lynchburg with a splash of water to celebrate. Sorry to get so wordy but this thing has beat the crap out of me.
Have a good evening my friends.
Glenn

First black hole picture: A breakthrough look from across the universe

The first ever image of a black hole was published April 10, 2019 (last Wednesday) from the black hole contained w/in the Messier 87 supergiant elliptical galaxy - 53 million light-years from Earth. It has a mass of 6.5 billion times that of our sun.

Way to go Glenn! I thought of the vacuum leak after I posted but then saw Norm had brought that up emphatically. Glad to hear she's running well. Would it be safe to ask if the problem was more of a stumble instead of a miss, meaning it was firing but not well? With luck you don't have to rebuild the engine in the near future. You'd be hard pressed to find someone in your area that would even understand what you want by the sounds of things. Enjoy showing her off at the car show on Saturday.

Thanks Allan. I had seen some little tell tell signs of gasoline residue on the intake manifold on the right side. When I would spray starting fluid on the base the car would smooth out momentarily. The problem was a steady miss. I put the Pertronix back in and now I have everything new in the ignition except the distributor itself. I kind of stumbled onto another Pertronix system on Amazon for $20. It was in a Wells box and advertised as Wells. Rockauto sell the exact same thing for $134. I jumped on it and it arrived today. When you look at the module it has Pertronix on it. Now I have a complete backup system which is in the tool box in the trunk. I don't know why it was so cheap (it was the last one they had) and how I happen to luck onto it. I hope I never need it.
It was supposed to storm here tonight but the storm is way past due. I will probably spend much of tomorrow cleaning the Olds. The engine compartment really needs a good cleaning so I will probably soak it down with a couple cans of Gunk and then get the pressure washer after it. I will wash the underside now that I have the oil leak fixed. Supposed to be sunshine and 83 degrees here Saturday. I have already missed three car shows this year due to weather. The show Saturday is in Rowlett which does not happen very often. Should be a good time.
Good Night

Good morning everyone,

Shnikeys! Today is trash day and what to my wondering ears did I hear at 7:50 this mawnin? The recycle dude! Usually I get up around 6:00 am but last night I woke up at around midnight with extreme neuropathy in my feet so I headed downstairs to take a dose of Gabapentin. It literally knocks me out, which in this case is no problem considering the time. Only thing is it seems to work like the energizer bunny. I had to hustle, throw on some gym clothes and run the recycle and trash out to the curb. Actually I ran the recycle across the street to catch him on the flip side of the cul-de-sac. My neighbor Michelle was just leaving for work and she waved at me, but had a surprised look on her face. When I came inside to hit the baffroom to brush my teeth I could see why. I had a really bad case of bed head, so I think it's time to get my ears lowered.

Well the election went well as can be. I had to wait for yesterday to confirm the final numbers as there were about 700K votes cast in advance that hadn't been counted yet. With the exception of our fair city (spits on ground) the entire province of AB went to Conservative gov't. (Republican) I'm really disappointed with Edmonton as with the exception of 1 riding, they all stayed with the Socialists. IMO they need to get their heads examined because the socialists have taken us down the path towards a 'new Venezuela'. Ok, I guess that's about all I should say about polly ticks without offending or getting banned.

Jim - Nice garden. You use ol blue to plow? I bin lookin at a Troy Bilt mower cuz de Sears one I gots jess don't wanna start even on de 10th or 18th pull. I no it's gotta be de otto choke not closin an dat reely frosts my punkin. I jess replaced dat stupid ting las yeer. It werked ok fer the res of de summer but now it's Tango Uniform. Ahl tries onst agin ta git de otto choke werkin and chenge de oil and spark plug. Mebbe itll lern good and run agin? Who knows. I figger it's jess time ta calls a spade a sapde and git a new won.

Glenn - When you clean your engine bay, do you bag your carb and distributor to keep water from the spray wash out? I know all the new cars don't mind water water clean downs especially since they have weather proof electrical connectors and are EFI. I remember washing down my 72 in a pressure wash bay and it wouldn't start afterwards. When I took the distributor cap off, everything was soaked. I used the air blower at the wash to blow the moisture out of the distributor and cap, installed it and it ran fine. Lesson learned on my old gal. Since then, I have to be honest and say I haven't pressure washed it since but it still is clean. 5 years ago when I was under the car getting the starter out, I decided to clean the entire bottom of the engine, and the cradle cross member. Lot's of work and pretty messy but after all's said and done it got a coat of new Olds gold down there and it almost looks like out of Lansing. The starter got rebuilt and reinstalled. It also looks like new and works perfectly. Wish we had warmer weather here so I could start working on it again.

Yesterday after the boy decided to return to the land of the living, he asked if maybe the tires on the Malibu should get changed over to summer ones. I had done mine several weeks ago, and I encouraged him to get it done. The summer wheels are in the shed so he hoisted them to the front yard and we jacked up the front of the car. I specifically wanted to check the brake pads because the car was previously owned by an older guy whose attention to the car seems a little suspect even though it only had around 35K miles on it during it's past 8 years. So the car is up, I got the caliper off and looked at the pads. Just as I'm doing that the wind picks up and it starts to rain... sheesh. It's what I thought, the pads are down to around 20% left. I didn't want to do just one side so I put the caliper back in place but when I tried to get the 2 14mm bolts back to hold it, they just didn't want to grab. Finally got it figured out, because it's different on that Chebby than my Malibu or Saturn for some reason. Anywho we put the winter tire back on and buttoned it up till we can get it done in better weather which is forecast for the Easter weekend. Interesting that the rotor appears to be like new - no ridges or wear indicated. The replacement pads are ceramic which is what the car supposedly came with new from the factory.

Time for a late brekkie. No Awful House so Casa de Allan grilled sausage with cackleberries and toast coming up.

Hi everyone.

Drawn out day at work today. We finished with the wheels around 11, but we didn't have any MD88 tires so those rims got set aside, and finally built around 1. We left at 130. Still an hour early so who cares. This ends my week of wheel inspecting, and I won't have to do it again until the second week of May.

Glenn glad you got the car back up and running right. Always the littlest things that cause the biggest problems. Funny though how the carb gasket decided to give it up just as you were changing to Pertronix.

My Troy Bilt mower has a generic stamped deck and a Briggs motor. The only thing Troy Bilt on it is the sticker on the top. It actually looks like a Toro.

So some errands tonight then the chiro, then I'll see who's at the Awful house and it it's someone good I'll come home and get Tiger. If it isn't, I'll get Arbys and bring home. I get to stay up late tonight, but I'll probably go to bed early. But not 600 early.

Okay gonna finish up lunch then hit the road. See ya's all later.

That's interesting because I was also looking at Toro. But they both cost so much. Only ones I've seen more expensive are the Husqvarna models or the Lithium Ion battery mowers. I won't buy either of those. Both TB and Toro come with either the Briggs & Stratton or Honda engines. I like them; they're way more reliable than Kohler IMO.

Just curious about why Jim. From what I've seen and read about Troy Bilt they are almost legendary.

Allan,When I bought this maintenance nightmare back in 1976, I needed a tiller, so I bought my Troy built Horse mail order [the only way to get one back then] It's the only piece of original equipment still around. It's been GREAT fro the get go. Yes they are Legendary

MTD now owns the name and can put the name on anything they want [maybe even a Hugo]

They make alot of stiuff for Casa De pot even the low end [now commercial John Deere] stuff and the worst mower ever created Murray

Soooooooooooooo, Basically the're using the good name [Troy Built] to sell alot of JUNK

How big a yard to ya hveta cut. Do you only need a push mower? Self propelled?

Just removed & sharpened my mower blades. I've had this Z225 ~eight years & does a great job. Muffler starting to head South, but that's a general maintenance item. Never had any issues with it.

Jim, you're right that it has to be something that will fit the needs. A walk behind push mower works for me. None of the FWD or AWD thanks. I'm not that lazy. My old mower I gave to a buddy back about 10 years ago. That thing was reliable as all get out. Plus it had the throttle and choke on the handle bar. When it finally cratered it turned out to be a stuck valve. Wassey fixed it and sold it for $50.00 I bet it's still running. This newer one from Sears continues to be a PITA. I heard from a friend of mine that running Seafoam through the gas tank every so often to help keep the fuel system clean. Sounds like it's a good idea and I might give it a try. Certainly can't hurt.

Ok, so now I've decided to bring the mower into the garage and overhaul the Autochoke and linkages. If it still gives me grief I'll be looking at the offerings. Not much out there either. This one is 173 cc and most of the new ones are 140 or 160. Don't know how much grunt they would have for what I put it through. I also use this thing for de-thatching.

Time to get ready for dinner. Just bought some nice steaks to throw on the grill. Them, coleslaw, sauteed mushrooms, beans and yellow flesh taters will go down real nice.

A friend of mine who works on mowers and such says that even after all these years of ethanol fuel, small equipment(like mowers and chain saws) still use fuel line that is not compatible. I guess that's their planned obsolescence.

When I bought my Troy Bilt I really wanted a Lawn Boy. No place to buy one around here, but there was a place by my Mom. I got the TB before I went to see her. Looking at pictures and the LB videos it seems it's the same deal, cheep deck and not an Outboard Marine engine.

I've got an early 80s Lawn Boy that I can't get parts for. Maybe I should step up the search and get it going again. That was an excellent mower. I bet it has a million hours on it.

Good Morning, (Australian time, not here)
Like a bad penny, I'm back!
And it feels good to be home, that was a couple of hard weeks. Did a lot of work, getting my parent's place staged, doing a real estate deal with my mother, and just cleaning up. So stage one is done, now the hard stuff starts. They have a huge house to pack up, luckily there is a company on the hook for that.
My dad is declining more rapidly that I had thought; - it's a very distressing thing to watch.

At any rate, this weekend will be used just to recuperate and wind down. Looks like they've swept the streets and no snow is forecast for the next few days, so the convertibles are going to get some exercise and an oil change.

One thing I am grateful for is the gas prices, on the Island it's a $1.68 a litre, or US$ 5.72 a gallon for regular. Super is $1.88 a litre, or US$ 6.40 a gallon. It would cost me $140 to fill up the Electra.

It'll be nice to get back into a routine; and it looks like I've got a lot of reading to catch up on.

Just on the lawn mower thing, I bought a Troy-built a few years ago and promptly gummed it up running regular fuel in it, - which of course has ethanol in it. It ran like an absolute toilet. I started running super in it and it smartened up all on its own. I guess I should do it a favor and change the oil in it.

Have a good evening!

I have a Troy Built with a Honda engine. seems to be pretty decent, but I am uncertain of it's age as I got it and some cash in a trade for my Toro rider a couple of years ago. I run Sta-Bil ethanol treatment most of the time, though on occasion I make the trip to get "recreational" gas which is ethanol free, for it and the snow blower.

Hi guys. About lawn mowers and snow blowers and the like, here's is what I found. First let me say I am a old mechanic and I always wanted things to work as they were designed- no " bandaids" or cobble jobs for me.... Anyway, later in life, after messing with rebuilding carburetors, messing with chokes, etc on weed wackers, rototillers, generators, etc. I rediscovered starting fluid. It seems that every spring, I can count on it, these gas engines won't start. I can take them apart- clean the carbs and get them running and they will start and run for the rest of the season fine. Or I can take off the air cleaner and spray a little either in the carb and they will start and start and run fine for the rest of the season. Now on the generators or something I am pretty sure won't get used for a long time I do use the non ethanol gas and sea form or equivalent mix in those. I enjoy working on my Olds and old truck but I do not enjoy working on this stuff. Starting fluid is your friend.
Marc, Does your Dad have Alzheimers? It's a tough thing to have to take care of your folks. Good luck to you and your family.

Good morning everyone.

Rain. And lots of it. The lake is up into the yard by about 10 feet. This is a rare occurrence. Tiger didn't want to go out this morning so I put on a hoodie and went out with him. It's really pouring and doesn't look to be letting up any time soon.

I was supposed to go get the truck today but texted the guy and said I'd rather not. He said fine, it's not in his way. So we'll try again next weekend. Gives me the whole day to myself but it will be inside stuff today for sure.

Yay Marc is back. Taking care of aging parents long distance, good on you, sir. When is the next trip back? Funny how you appreciate the gas prices. It's all relative. I complain about 2.65/gallon by me, but it is way more in Florida and when I get home from there I think, wow, I'm catching a break here.

Greg the last time I volunteered at the car museum I'm a member of, we were trying to get the 1925 McFarland out of a trailer, as it had just come back from a show. The curator had a squeeze bottle of gasoline and was spritzing it in the carb. I asked if starting fluid would help. Boy did I get the evil eye. He said, these cars were designed to run on gasoline. I thought fine, keep messing with it.

Norm that's a sweet looking lift. Is it strong enough for anything heavier?

Jamesbo MTD also owns Cub Cadet. That just hurts my heart. It's the reason I bought a Deere when I got my riding mower. The CC looked like a well-built machine, but I just couldn't get past the parent company. By the way, I'm from Moline, Illinois, which is home base to Deere and Company. My Granddad worked at IH Farmall, who also had a gigantic operation in Moline and East Moline. I really wanted the CC but I smile when I walk up to the mower and see John Deere and Company Moline Ill . The Deere has been an excellent machine.

The rain isn't letting up and the lake is higher yet in the yard. This isn't going to end well. The lake people opened the flood gates way too late. My house is high enough that the water will crest the dam before it gets to the house. Still not a good scene.

Hope everyone has a [G]ood Friday.

It stopped raining shortly after I posted. We went out to see what the lake was doing. Those are cinder blocks stacked up with weeds growing out of them in front of Tiger, and the block all the way to the left is the edge of the wall. The water level is supposed to be 2 to 2 1/2 feet below the top of the wall. This is the highest by far the lake has ever been in my back yard.

Good Morning!

Happy Good Friday!

It's a kinda cool but non-snowy morning here, the grass is a wonderful brown and the trees are still shivering in their nakedness. But, this time 2 years ago there was a foot of snow still laying around, so I'll take this any day.

Ended up having to tear this computer down and de-dust it; there were a lot of cat-fur hairballs in it, every time this thing fired up it would smell like an old hairy cat that's on fire, didn't know whether it was going to start up, burn up or meow. So it's now back up and running and seems to have survived the ordeal. The cat, surprisingly enough, didn't want her fur back. I think I'll stuff a pillow with it.

Mike, that picture looks scary; and yet in a funny way beautiful. You've got a nice view there, hopefully the water level isn't close to the house. Does it usually flood in the spring? Or is it a result of the funny weather you guys have been having down south lately?

Allan, you happy about the election results? I am, and this was the first one I could legally vote in, and I did. I still felt this incredible urge to lower my zipper and turn the candidate pool in front of me into a real one, but reason prevailed and I think I did the right thing.

Glenn, - good to read your Olds problem was a small one; - those are often the worst to diagnose and source. A 4GC has always been my nemesis; I can build all sorts of carbs but for some reason a 4GC escapes me and every time I get near one that's running stupid I break into a sweat. So when I started reading about your miss, I thought "oh boy, here comes another 4GC issue, sounds like a vacuum leak". Good to hear it was just a gasket.

Ah,..the sun is peaking out; - time to go and fire up an old car and go for a spin...

Have a great day!

Mike- It's my motorcycle lift (primarily) - that's what it is designed to accommodate. The rated capacity is 1500lbs. It has a front wheel lock and the sides are removable.

ATL made the news big time w/ the stand-still traffic from this storm; which, should be in my area along the Atlantic Ocean coastline in another several hours.

Marc it's been years since I've had water up into the yard, and never this much. I was out front and a friend of mine came past with his son. The son lives on the other side of the neighborhood and couldn't get home, the road was flooded. So he picked up his dad and when they saw me stopped and said they were going to Awful house, I should join them. Well, I'm not one to turn that down. Just got home. It was blue sky the whole time I was eating, but started raining when I started for home. I think Round 2 is coming. The water is quite a bit lower in the yard now but it won't be for long.

I'm gonna go over to the shop and get the pickup. I saw one of the lake people out and I'm going to see if he needs help with anything. The beach house is completely flooded and the clubhouse is getting there. I'm not a member of the lake anymore but I like this guy I don't mind helping.

Well the water is pretty much out of the yard, but the lake is still very high. The rain stopped and the sun came out so that helped. Now I see it's supposed to rain tomorrow so we'll see what happens next. By the time I got home with the pickup that guy was done doing whatever and had gone home. I rode around the neighborhood to see if anything was still flooded. The street down from me was flooded, and when it was almost receded the county came and put up barriers. They were called this morning. I drove around them. I had gone through the higher water before the barriers were put up, so I didn't see the need to go back around.

Tomorrow I'm going up to see our boy John, so I'll go put the truck back and get the Aura. It's just been sitting at the shop. That will be a long day but I haven't seen them for almost a year. It will be a good time.

Think I'll hit the sack soon. I haven't done too much today but I'm tired. Hope everyone has a good evening.

Mike, that is a lot of water. The lake behind out house get up higher than usual sometimes and a couple time really higher after flashfloods. We are high above it and never in any danger of flooding and it recedes pretty quickly because they release water.
Marc, welcome back. Sorry you are having to go through all you are going through. I overhauled the 4gc on my 54 with no problems. I think they are easier than a quadrojet but I may have been lucky,
After I got the Olds back together I spent yesterday afternoon cleaning the engine. First I soaked it really good with some engine cleaner I got at Walmart. It was called CRC or something close to that. I have never seen it in parts stores. I bought an assortment of brushes and scrubbed the fender wells and the firewall. Then I got the power washer and put a smaller nozzle on it and washed it like crazy. What an improvement. I still had lots of oil underneath from the oil leak I fixed. After that I took the power washer to the top being careful to avoid the windows. I also sprayed the whitewalls (I am probably the only one here except maybe Marc that has them) with Westley's and then power washed them. Finally I just held the power washer back and sprayed a mist on the car to get the dust off. With a completely new ignition system and the vacuum leak fixed, this old gal is running better than ever. I have had a hard time getting the coolant out of the carpet on the passenger front floorboard. I have soaked it twice with oil dry and then cleaned it with the stronger grade of simple green. I had a fan on it most of the day today but it still has some residue. I have a show tomorrow and plan on putting baking soda on the carpet when I get back. I am excited to be able to go to a car show tomorrow. It is supposed to be sunshine and a high of 79 degrees (my apologies to my friends to the north). I have done a few small things like hooking up my safety switch to the electric fuel pump. The pump will not run unless the engine has oil pressure. I do have a bypass in the event I run out of gas.
That is about all I have tonight. I hope all of you had a good day and have a nice weekend. Stay safe and Happy Motoring.

Glenn

Mike, with the water problems, maybe it's time to get the 6x6 back home. You do have a nice view though.

Good Morning everyone.

Great weather outside. Going to visit Usparts today ( sells parts for USA-made cars) to pick few items, and meanwhile visit at work to weld one little thing with MAG.
Then heat sauna and light the grill. My wife bought me great birthday-present ( theyre at monday), 12-pack of beer and packet of pork ribs Knows what i like

Since we got to lawnmowers.. I have Jonsered RWD pusher-type. We have so "hilly" yard that without motor on it its horrible to push it uphill. But i should fix the drive, it broke down last autumn. Probably just threw a belt.

slantflat - Wow, thats alot of water. You have great view on your backyard btw

Okay, have a day all. Ill start to head to Usparts to get something done to my Olds. Weekend Schedule is to rip AC off and install trans-cooler. Not much, but closer to completion nonetheless.

Mike, looks like Tiger loves exploring the higher water.. Dogs are so much fun, everything seems to be so joyful for them. Our old Jack is doing pretty good still and seems to be joyful mostly. Yeah, starting fluid is hard on engines for sure.

Good morning everyone.

The water is back to normal, and my dilapidated dock survived. I really expected it to come loose and float away. It's in terrible shape and I'm taking it down next time the lake is lowered. There's probably 40ft from where the water stopped to the house, so it would really have to rain for it to reach the house. Actually, it sits above the dam, so the water would crest the dam before it got to the house. We'd have bigger problems if the water got to the house. Like where to rent an ark.

Leaving in a minute to go up to da hills. It will be nice to see John and Better Half. I'm gonna go swap out for the car and take that up there. I could take the truck, but their driveway is so steep the truck can't get up it. One time I was there I had to go into 4WD and let the front wheels put me up. The back end is so light the wheels just spun.

Well I hope everyone has a good day. I keep thinking it's Sunday, because I was off yesterday. Spoke with the Deuce mechanic and we're on for next Saturday to pick it up. That's funny you say that Dan, if it were home I would have gone to get it. One never knows what you'll be up against in an epic storm like yesterday's.

Good morning everyone,

Happy Easter long weekend to everyone.

Marc - Yes sir, it feels good to be back in Conservative AB. So with Wynn and Notley gone, there's just 3 more jerks to rid Canada of. Trudeau, Horgan and Legault. I think the rest of us feel pretty much the same. Most of BC feels Horgan is wrong for them and is only holding on to power through the Greens, Legault? What can I say other than if he didn't get our equalization payments he wouldn't be alive. Trudope? Nuff said.

Jouni - I read about those mowers. They're about the same as some of the high end Toro's and cost a LOT of money. I don't want to go that route, although I usually cut the grass about 2-3 times a week here. Most of it is mulched instead of bagged.

Glenn - I see a lot of CRC products up here. It's probably labeled that way but made by one of the larger chemical producers in the USA. Clean engine compartments just feel good don't they?

Not much else happening today. Kinda cool overcast windy start to the day.

Allan R - Locally there those Jonsereds werent so much steeper price than others that i bought mine. Money well spend, my wife couldnt cut the grass without rwd, now she can if i happen to be at long working trip. CRC is like best thing sold here. Didnt know they are just re-labels

Soo, the elections ended last sunday. God knows what happens, but socialists are at lead to form next government by 7000 votes.. Dont sound too good..

Just came off from sauna. Now grilling my pork ribs, listening 70's music, sipping beer, and enjoying life as it is. Have a great evening all of you!

Jouni - I guess it depends on what you'd call a steep price. I bought my Craftsman about 10 years ago and it was on sale for $299.00 It's a 173cc Kohler engine with that awful auto choke. I just finished cleaning up the garage and washed down the floor. I use a shop squeegee and shop vac to get all the water off. Now it's squeaky clean so I can bring in the mower and put it up on a stand without fear of losing anything in the crud that had accumulated over the winter. I strongly suspect that the reason the auto choke doesn't work is the choke plate, which is attached to a vertical rod, which is in turn attached to a bell crank connecting the auto choke rod. My belief is the choke is not closing because that choke plate rod is binding somehow. I'll start by taking off the air cleaner assembly so I have access to the choke plate. I might have to remove the recoil starter and shroud to get full access. IF the problem is that choke plate rod I'm not sure what lube I'll use to free it up. Start with some carb cleaner I think and then see if some light machine oil will work at giving it free movement.

Sorry to hear the socialists are in the lead there. That's just the beginning of the end if they get in.

Adrian - Hey, would you believe some stations in Vancouver are now selling petrol for $1.72/L??? And it's gonna get worse. I think pretty soon it will be as bad as Finland... Locally we're very lucky to be paying only 1.16/L (I pay 1.08/L with my corporate card). This whole oil thing is getting out of control.

Well, my back is killing me, due to yard work.Time for Gabapentin and Ibuprofen. Cut up some branches that the wet snow brought down last week end. Went from 8' inches of snow to the 60's at the drop of a hat. Mulched and bagged the oak leaves that wait until the snow has fallen to drop of off the trees four months ago. Tried moving a large rock with my dolly, but I could not get it on the dang thing. Called my brother over to lend a hand, and after a couple of failed attempts to get it on the dolly, we finally just rolled it to it's new location about 10 feet away. When that was done I applied the weed and feed. Time for pizza from a local place, and then gonna make blueberry coffee cake for tomorrow. Have a good Easter everyone.

Well, it was a busy day of catching up with the guys, touring flea markets and other shops for deals, and coming home with 2 more watches that I really don't need. Already got them cleaned up and running well. One is a 1860s vintage Matile & Mosimann from Switzerland, the other is a bastardized Omega called a Regina for the Canadian market. The M & M is the interesting one, I've never seen a movement like it and it probably is quite rare. That still doesn't mean it's worth anything though, a pocket watch is completely useless to most people, even though the cellphone is the modern equivalent of one.

Put quite a few miles on the old Electra today; - there's also an old RCA Victor floor model radio from about 1939 in the trunk right now; - I needed the big car to go and pick up that beast. Now to get it into the house without breaking it or the wife killing me. I just couldn't say no to it; it's in great shape and it was cheap. It works too, and it still sounds pretty good.

Allan, - agree with you on all points of the politics. if only those last 3 could be replaced by people with reason and common sense, - probably too much to ask for. But I've had enough of the dreamers and the flakes, and they're making my life too expensive.

Other than that, pretty quiet...tomorrow I have to strip off the winter tires on the wife's clunker and clear out the garage. My back is already hurting...

Have a happy Easter!

Well it has been a good day. Today was the first time I had actually driven the Olds after all the work and cleaning I did on it this past week. The car is running better than it has in the almost 6 years I have owned it. It is as smooth as silk. I went to a local car show here in Rowlett this morning. It was held at a small church and was in conjunction with their Easter Festival. There were only about 25 cars there but some pretty nice cars. My friend Bruce brought his 48 Studebaker with the 502 big block in it. It was built in California and is an incredible car. There was a beautiful red and white 54 Chevy 2 door hardtop there and a very nicely restored 57 Bel Air with a power pack 283 and a factory 3 on the tree. This was one of those shows were there were no classes and awards were given to the top 20 cars voted on by the participants. Bruce and I both took the Best of Show awards. Now all is forgiven about the bad things I called the car when I was chasing the stupid vacuum leak. When I came home I parked in the driveway and after several hours there was one little spot of oil about the size of a quarter. Big change from not long ago when I would pull up and run in the garage to get cardboard to put under the car to catch the oil and transmission fluid. I took my wife up to the diner with the top down and it was very nice. Life is good again. I have attached three pictures from the show.
I hope each of you have a wonderful Easter.

Glenn

Your car looks beautiful, Glenn. You deserve the award. Glad to hear it is running great- isn't it nice when it all works out. Looks like a very nice show. I am looking forward to the warmer weather. Yesterday was really nice and mostly sunny but cool. Had a Easter egg hunt at my inlaws to go to and it was great. Kids had so much fun. Hope everyone has a great Easter!

Good morning everyone Happy Easter.

Had a good trip to da hills yesterday and a nice visit with John and Better Half. I adore these people. They are both well and we talked and watched some old TV shows. I didn't get home till late, but Tiger was fine and seemed a little perturbed that I woke him up. I decided to forego Awful house this morning so we've just been taking things slow. Gotta decide what to do today.

Glenn that's a nice picture. Your car is beautiful,, no wonder you won the award. I think it would be an award(or a reward) just being able to drive it whenever you want. When do you start on the Chevy?

Took the Aura yesterday and remembered that it has a fairly heavy shimmy up around 60mph. It evens out over 65. Mom would never have known this, she doesn't go over 30. The tires are new, so I wonder if they got the balancing wrong. I'll rebalance them first, and if it persists I guess I'll have to take the car back to Florida so the tire place can check out the tires and maybe replace one(under warranty).

Well I guess I'll get ready for the day. It's sunny out but a bit cool. Need to trade out the car for the dogmobile, then I can do what I want. Have a good day everyone.
