Jamesbo, I think it's Coors light that has since 1978 on it and that sounds about right for when it came out. Banquet I think says 1873 on it.

Hi everyone.

Woke up this afternoon and it was chilly in the house. I thought maybe the weather had turned. Nope, let the dog out and it was 80. A little haze in the sky.

Clint have a safe trip. If you're connecting in Atlanta later on this evening, give me a shout and I'll try to meet you.

Jamesbo I drink CL when I'm out as well. On the rare occasions I buy beer for the house, it's usually Killian's Red.

Welcome pherbicide and good luck with the interview. Just remember, STAR. Situation, Task, Action, Result. What is the job?

Ready for night #2. Last night wasn't too bad. Did a lot of running around. No reason to think tonight will be anything different, though one never knows.

Okay have a good Thursday evening everyone.

Dry & muggy in da' Swamp, but spose to change this weekend. With any luck, we'll get a spitting of rain.

Mike, did you get to see that Command Car on the Web? Have fun at work. Glad to hear you're getting a little satisfaction out of it, and somewhat looking forward to getting back. BTW, I spoke to a guy who was at my H. S. yesterday and he told me he was a Corvair guy. His name is Ray Fuenzalida and lives down here in LA if you ever run across his name on any of the Corvair sites. I told him about you, but don't think it rang a bell with him -- or whether it even should have.

Jamesbo, we (the Saints) have the pleasure of being hosted by Colin Kaepernick on Sunday afternoon. Get the rotten eggs & tomatoes ready. If the Saints lose this one, it'll be 100% mental; they're better than the 49ers. But I count no chicken at this point. My feeling was correct against the Seahawks on Sunday, but it's the 1-6 teams that usually pull fast ones on the Boys in Black -- especially away.

Clint, that solves the mystery and answers the question I've been too embarrassed to ask. So you named 'er after my neighbor, eh? She hails from Kentwood, LA -- just a few miles up I-55 from my abode.

G_Money, Welcome to the asylum! Kwik word of wisdom: if you want more than one (or none) person's input on your photos, post in one of the restoration or technical forums. We B here just to shoot da' caca mostly... our moderator fusses with us if we dwell too much on cars.

Cheers, Olds pals.

Good evening.

Well, its over. The season. Next ~5 months at home, and the next season is mystery. Was a "sad" feeling to say goodbyes to boss, and hope him everything good, but i just cant stand his son for any more years. I told it to him straight, and he kind of agreed. Well, it was for me end of one era, and next year, ill be starting somewhere else. Meanwhile, i have an house to repair, and Cutlass to build.

Merry christmas and happy new year for everyone, its winter vacation!

Off from sauna, drinking good beer, and even better brandy

Hi everyone.

Picture perfect again. Sorry Jamesbo, but I can really get into this no rain bit.

Had a good night at work. Worked the Falcons' charter back home, there was enough food to feel a small city. Steak, shrimp, chick fila sandwiches and wraps, mashed potatoes, chips, Gatorade, we ate like kings. Wouldn't mind one like that every evening.

John I may have failed you. I did look at several pictures of Command cars but didn't know if there was one in particular you wanted me to see. Your friend's name doesn't ring a bell, but I haven't been active in the Corvair world for awhile. Wouldn't mind getting back into it, but I'm at odds with the local club and the one I'm a member of (Florida) is too far for the weekday meetings.

Time to do it a third night. Hope everyone has an enjoyable weekend.

Evening all. Catching up on all the threads since I last posted. Sunny and upper 50's here today, got home from work and finished getting the water out of the pool to put it away for the winter. Then its time to start on inside the house projects. Always something to do.

Clint - Britt's stance looks pretty good to me.

Inline - I must admit, 5 months vacation is a long time. Is that paid time off? Not sure I would know what to do with myself with that much time away. I used to get 4 weeks off, now I only get 2 weeks.

Enjoy the weekend everyone.

Good Morning. God my head hurts.. Oh well, own fault.

OLD SKL 69- Yep, its payed, and truth to be told, even i dont know what to do for 5 months at winter. At summer, it wouldnt be problem.
Trick is, i get paid more for sitting home than i would get By going to some 8hr/day job which dont require specialising. So here i am, " trapped", until i want to cut my income and go to work...

The unemployment benefit(?) they pay us, is counted from your average monthly income from the time you were at work. And giving our short summer ( and season for work), we do really long days, resulting in huge incomes in a short span of time, and when it gets divided By the months we were working, it results in a higher income for sitting at home than being at work.

Hmm. What to do today? Not sure yet. First ill keep week or two vacation from everything, and then start to repair my house, and then onto Cutlass.

American worm.

Mike, I was talking about the one in the Reality Rides show I referred to. I'm 'bout through with season 3, but they're working on a hot-rod '57 Roadmaster 75. Of course if it were mine it'd be a concours restoration (they're changing everything -- including a custom fabricated front suspension + LS3 motor). But the workmanship they show is pretty amazing.

Welcome back, Darrell. Set a spell.

Y'all enjoy yer weekend.

Jamesbo, you're a culinary expert... I know it will be dee-lish. I've never even bought panko in my life (we're really big into the Progresso Italian-style breadcrumbs down here), and I've never bought or cooked a chicken strip. (Generally do the whole birds.)

Enjoy... You can eat 'em while LSU's ripping apart Nick Saban's brigade this evening. (I dreamed that, anyway.)

And in case there are any folks as college-football averse as I am and don't know already know it, ESPN is doing their College GameDay from "The Quad" (doesn't every big college have one?) at LSU today. Too bad I don't get ESPN. But the game's on CBS this evening at 7 (Central Time). As I said, I'm not a huge LSU fan, but when they're playin' the Tide (or any other school coached by Saban), I'm all Tigers.

Hi everyone.

Friday for me. We ran around like mad all night long last night. The lead thinks he's funny since me and my buddy work together, that he gives us twice as many planes as everyone else. We do a pretty good job of getting everything done but last night we had a couple jobs that were an hour plus, not to mention none of the planes were where they were supposed to be.

John I'll check out Reality Rides this weekend. I'm like you, I'd want to do a correct restoration on something vintage, and tire of an LS motor going into everything. Sure it's easy and relatively cheep, but at this point a little long in the tooth. If they are that good at their craft, then let's see them do something out of the ordinary.

Darrell I'm about the opposite from you. I get the inside stuff done during the summer(in the AC) and the outside stuff done in the winter(no bugs). Regardless, there's always something going on.

Okay time to hit it and quit it. Hopefully I get the good lead who gets the Friday people out ridiculously early. It's nice having a full day on your first day off, instead of sleeping it all away.

Have a good evening everyone.

Still no Elsie

John, I use I-talian bread crumbs in my meatloaf

Last night meal was good but not great, served with Kale and butternut squash it was a little toooooo healthy for my taste

Speaking of fowl. John, How about whipping me up a cajun "turduckin" for Thanksgiving. I've never made or had one and I don't think my deboning skills are up to the task.

Welp, GTG

Have a great day Olds friends

Good morning everyone.

The Awful house was jumping this morning. Had to laugh. There were probably 8 to go orders lined up and this woman comes up and says to go order for Mike. The girl looks at all the orders and says, there isn't one. Yes there is he just called. What was the order? blah blah. What number did he call? XX. Oh, that's in Fayetteville(Fayetteville is about 20 miles from here).

Worked with my buddy last night. We had to change a flight attendant seat that all the bolts were pretty much inaccessible. Just as we were getting started the lead(the good Friday lead) calls and says, if you guys are in a good place Mike can go home. This was about 1230. My buddy said, if you want get out. I said nope, this is going to be a two man job. We messed with that thing for over an hour, then discovered a panel that was hidden in the lav wall that could come out and make things a whole lot easier. Finished up and went to do the paperwork and the computers were down. So I left. After the time change, I was home around 2. Not bad. Inline I thought the son was a jerk. My lead last night is always good for Friday people, and not a bad guy all around.

Went out to the black truck this morning and got the dreaded bad battery blues. Finally got it to start but thought nah, this might be pressing my luck. Tomorrow I'll go get a battery for it, it's been wanting to die for a while now, leaving it set a few days and then it being cold out this morning finally did it in.

Okay thinking about a brake job on the blue van. Gotta check it out anyway. Hope everyone has a good Sunday.

Edit: Here's a question. I bought brake shoes for the grey van many years ago and never used them. They are still in the garage, do brake shoes go bad or could I use them if I need them for the blue van? They are the same parts, I'd say they are 8 years old.

Ah okay, sorry ive understand then wrong. I thought that one making you two run around with twice the work amount was the same one youve been cursing now and then, the one who dont understand nothing about the work your doing.

About the brake shoes, i dont believe they can go bad on storage. Installed at car, sitting most of its time, they are exposed to more humidity than on shelter, and are on risk to get oil to them from leaking axle seals etc. Ive personally inspected a car that hasnt been moved for 10 years when i bought it, and it passed brake-test. And i never changed them at my 5 year ownership. So i think theyre good to go.

Kwin g'dafternoon... Whelpt, LSU tanked. Just didn't have an offense, & defense got wore out. Saban triumphs again.

Let's see what the Boys in Black do on the left coast this afternoon.

Jamesbo, those things are nuttin' I'd undertake myself; too labor intensive -- mostly something I'd buy pre-fab iffin' I was going to serve one. But my stuffed turkeys are so good, who needs it? ;-)

Seriously, they're good -- but most of the time the folks who make them have WAY too much salt in 'em. Got one from Gourmet Butcher Block with Italian sausage stuffing about 10 yrs ago and we could barely eat it it was so salty. We're used to ALMOST NO salt, and you can always add it.

Fixin' us a nice Sam's ribeye & some baked taters today. Haven't had steak in months, so lookin' forward to it. Ate breakfast at La Madeleine (the one in Mandeville) this mernin, then visited the Ponchatoula Antique Trade Days & Craft Sale for a few hours afterwards. Real nice morning.

Whelpt, y'all have a great rest o'Sunday, Olds pals.

Good morning everyone.

Must be too cold for the worm. It's chilly outside but down right cold in the house. I guess it's time to call the gas company.

John I looked up the Command Car. It was a good show but I didn't see where they finished it. Next season maybe? I perused the Buick and Zephyr builds. Nice looking cars.

Today is Sally Field's birthday. She's awesome. Not sure where she got her start, The Flying Nun or Gidget. Don't like either of those shows but if they were on I'd watch them because she's in them. Ah, she was born 20 years too early.

So, battery for the truck today, and when it warms up I'll do some trimming in the yard. We'll see what else I can get into after that.

Happy Monday everyone.

Mernin', all.... Slightly nippy, about 55 deg F; finally getting a little misting outside, which will supposedly erupt into full-blown & widespread showers tomorrow -- just in time fer the election.

Mike, the Command Car was revealed and shown toward the end of the season. It actually won an award its first time out (@ Good Guys?). I have to say, I'm not a big fan of the fluff in a lot of these shows, but tying in the Command Car with the vineyard and aviation threads made for some interesting viewing.

Happy birthday, Sally! Sorry she has to be such a geezer, that it appears you might have missed her. We never missed The Flying Nun when I was a kid. But I hate to say it, I'm prolly one of the few people who were of legal age in the 70s and 80s who never went to see the Smoky & the Bandit movies.

Since I'm done with all 3 seasons of Reality Rides -- and a couple of my other faves were mysteriously erased from Amazon Prime -- I reverted to some later seasons of My Classic Car, which I'd never seen. One episode I just watched featured a 1960 Jeep Forward Control. It had you written all over it, Mike. Pretty cool truck 56 yrs. later.

Sorry the bird strips weren't up the expectations, Jamesbo. I have to say the rib-eye and tates last night were exquisite. One wrinkle in the preparation was that I tried out the infrared burner on my (relatively) new grill and it was a learning experience. I learned the hard way that you really can't cook the steak on it -- just sear it. It did give it a great sear; but it's kind of a PITA to have to fire up two different burners to cook one steak. The thing seems as if it's either "on" or "off." There ain't no turnin' it down.

Anyhoots, y'all have a great week, Olds chums.

Good Morning.

Heavy snow raining, and 19'F temp outside. Winter coming for real. Glad to be at home now, i hate winter passionately. And wintersports.

About the recent talk of car-shows, i dont like them. Everything, except wheeler dealers, which i hate too, always includes ripping "everything" original apart, and just stuffin high-value high-end stuff to the car, and that freaking LS-engine for everything. Okay, its mainstream, and something major publicity wants to see, but id like rather watch some restoration tv-shows. That "Pro-Touring" scene just dont do it for me.

Googled that Jeep Forward Control out of interested, and whoa, never seen or heard about that. Neat vehicle.

Btw, i have to ask one question about trucks. Since at Europe i think 99,9% of trucks are of COE-type, why those trucks with engine mounted in front of cab are so popular in states? We have one at my former Company, and it just plain s*cks compared to COE trucks. No benefits, just negatives. At tight spaces and cities its nuisance to have that nose on truck, and you can drive to much tighter places with COE trucks.
Just out of interest, not bashing you for having those kind of trucks, if you got that feeling from my talk.

Have a good tuesday everyone.

Good morning everyone.

An eye-opening 60* in here this morning. It's a tad over 40 outside, gonna be nice today.

John I was on My Classic Car once. The guy went to our Amphicar shindig several years ago, like 16, and there's a good 15 seconds of me in my car on the lake going into one of the segments. Also when we were all lined up in the park the camera was walking past a row and you could just catch one of my fins and half the license plate.

Got three batteries yesterday from a place that rebuilds them. Two big block batteries and a VW was 223 all in. I didn't think that was too bad. Actually these batteries were brand new. I still have a couple more to buy but they will have to wait.

Last day off. No clue what I want to do today. Maybe just goof off. Maybe I'll do the trimming I didn't do yesterday. Have a good day everyone.

Hi everyone.

HA John. Twenty Five years? Hope you whoop it up good.

Jamesbo the car used to swim just fine. There was rust in the back that got a little too bad, and it started running hot, so I stopped driving it. Lately I've been pulling parts off getting it ready for a paint job.

Gas man coming tomorrow. One year my gas bills were over 400 a month, and I got so mad the next year I didn't have service at all. I survived with space heaters and wearing gloves in the house. The coldest it got in the house was 32. I was never so glad to see spring come. It was the principle of the thing in the beginning, but then it got to be a marathon.

Work tonight. Hope everyone has a good evening.

Good Morning. Cold, snowy, and more snow promised for afternoon- night.

Thought to link you this :

Nothing interesting on the sales text, apart that seller claims this particular one was used during aftermath of WTC-strikes. Wondering how someone has thought to import an old ambulance here. Wont be big seller, and its been sitting there for sale, long.

Thanks, guys! (I wish I could say "guys & gals," but we seem to run 'em off here for some reason, even with Jamesbo's Kavorka*.)

Sorry to hear about the wildfires, Jamesbo; hope they stay away from our little retreat.

Have a great Thursday, Olds buddies.

Hi everyone.

Man those fires must be blazing something fierce, the smoke was unbearable at the airport last night, and I can smell it at my house still today. Jamesbo you guys must be needing gas masks.

Clint welcome back to the grind. How was Florida?

"Help me, Father, help me!"

Jamesbo there's nothing I'd like more than to be married and have a family. I think I'm growing a little long in the tooth for that to happen, though.

Gas man was supposed to come today. He didn't. At least he didn't turn the gas on. I put up a sign that showed where the gas meter is, and then a sign next to the meter saying there were no gas appliances in the house, the furnace lights outside, and don't bother me I'm sleeping. So they don't turn gas on over the weekend, do they expect people to stay home from work to sit around "between 8am and 4pm?" I wish I could come up with an alternative, but if I were that smart I would have done it years ago. Now to call and fight with them on the phone, that is if I can get through. Anyone have any ideas?

Night two. Last night the lead said it was his Friday, he took some time off to go camping with his son, and to finish up early and get back in. To aid in that he loaded up everyone with several, hours long write-ups and everyone got in late, and he was there well past 6. Tonight the lead we're going to have is clueless, and doesn't like to do his own work, so I suspect it will be a light night. Okay by me.

Well I best get my act together. Hope everyone has a good night.

Good friday-morning.

More snow has rained at night. Should go outside at some point to get rid of it.

Mawn'in all

Cooler but still dry

John, That was one of your better selections

Mike, I think I can solve your problems. Just get a fat girl to keep you warm during the winter. Then tell her to hit the road come spring.

Time to run errands

Have a GREAT day Olds friends

Mornin.

Mike it was ok. The water and boating and company was great. Actually I had higher hopes for Key largo As Brian, Dennis and the guys made it sound much more than it really was.

Have a weekend

Kwik g'mernin', folks. Errand running day, including Aunt Carmy visit. But at least I'll plop my **** in the Vette, which will make it much more fun.

Glad you had a good time (for the most part), Clint.

Watched a My Classic Car last nite from 3-4 yrs ago (Season 16, I believe). This guy had a '67 Delta Custom coupe w/ 29k miles on it and was totally original. Said his Dad bought it at either Hershey or Carlisle or something a couple years back. It was gold w/ black vinyl and black Naugahyde & had the 425. I never appreciated those behemoths when I was a young'un, but it sure looked cool floating down the street on MCC. That roof line, along with the front & tail, were so distinctive.

Jamesbo, that really says something about the other clips I've posted.

Mike, stay warm this winter. I'm guessing we'll be crankin' up the gas fireplace up next time we go up.

Y'all have a great Friday, Olds compadres.
