lung surgery Thursday

Going in for lung surgery Thursday. Lung cancer. Probably taking left upper lobe out. I guess I will be out of action for a month or two. Does anyone know what I should expect? Wish me luck.

Can't really tell you what to expect, but I just had a quadruple bypass and it was no big deal.

Best of luck. Hang in there.

Quad bypass sure sounds like a big deal to me. I'm going to put you on my hero list. Thanks guys. So far I know I will be in the hospital 4-7 days with a tube hanging out my chest.

Good luck with the surgery and a quick recovery.
My uncle had TB back in the 40's and they removed his right lung and half of his left lung and he lived another 40 years and enjoyed the odd smoke and a couple of drinks here and there. You should be OK with this.

A couple three of years ago I messed around and didn't take care of a bad case of walking pneumonia and that almost got me. long story short version I ended up having a mass of scar tissue removed from the lung so the antibiotics could get to and work on the pneumonia. You will not be fond of that drainage tube. Not to scare you but that was the most miserable 4 days I have ever had and I have had many operations in the past. Thank God for good drugs.

I am sure you have gone over all this with your doc and perhaps things have improved sense I had it done... I wish you all the best. Keep us informed... Tedd

A Lady Friend of mine had a lobe taken out of the right lung around 8 years ago. This was done in Cleveland. She did a lot of research and she felt good about her Surgeon, still does. She told me the names for the two types of surgeries but basically hers was the more involved. They removed part of a rib on her back. He did that mainly to remove more lymph nodes, as a precaution. She had it done on a Thursday, drain tube out on Saturday. She said do the after surgery breathing exercises religiously. She did all the checkups, everything is fine. She's an active woman and hasn't any limitations. Pittsburgh has great medical facilities. Keep us informed about your recovery. We'll be thinking about you and looking forward to your post.

X3 Tedd, Larry, we need to hear something, hope he is doing well, with no complications !
We're in desperate need of a long-term cure for that dam cancer termite. I just brings pain to family, friends, and disrupts so many other lives. Even here on ClassicOlds!

X4, I've been watching to see if Steller checked in. I went through the surgery/recovery with my Lady Friend around 8 years ago. It's a long upward climb back to normal living. Hopefully Stellar will check in soon.

X5 we are all pulling for you. I know recovery can be a bitch especially with tube hanging out. Watched my brother got through that a few years back. The only thing on his mind was getting the tubes out. Hopefully he will check soon, but I certainly understand.
